Well, university anyway. I'm in a celebratory mood because i've just had my interview and have been accepted to do a Postgraduate M.A in Documentary Photography at the University Of Wales. It looks great and has a very good reputation as being one of the best in the UK. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and i think it'll be a great way to move my photography into some interesting challenging areas. It's not a 'photojournalism' course in any way and has quite a wide brief of what documentary photography is and has some wonderful photographers as lecturers, some of whom i'd heard of before i found out they taught there. The head of department who i had my interview with today once wrote a book called, 'City Gorged with Dreams: Surrealism and Documentary Photography in Interwar Paris' which sound right up my street!
Anyway, thought i'd share my good news with my fellow DPC-er friends and i'll be sure to keep posting to challenges when i can but i may go a bit quieter than i have been. I'm doing the course part-time so that'll be 2 years and i'm sure i'll keep you all posted on how it's going.
Thanks guys. I'm really looking forward to it. An added bonus is that the campus is in the beautiful Welsh village of Caerleon, birthplace of one of my favourite Victorian/Edwardian writers, Arthur Machen, and also site of the Roman fortress of Isca and other important archeological sites. It's a very lovely magical place so i'm really looking forward to trips there each week.
