With the help of "that dude is hot"Coley, Quigley and a few friends these are the shots the band picked. Lighting setups posted on each shot.
It was a blast!!

The walls in this place are a stunning red to begin with. I wanted to keep the warmth and ambiance of this place. I gelled the speedlites so i wouldn't lose the red with hot light from the flashes thus losing the genereal feel of the room.

Ahh...that makes since. I was wondering how you changed the color of the walls to red and kept the great skin tones...I never dreamed the walls started out red! Was it 1/4 CTO on all of them?
Jason, me too but I'm starting the loooong journey of at least attempting to learn how to use strobes appropriately. These shots like Leo's make me want to learn even more.
Now let me digress a bit... I was backtracking through your portfolio, shot-by-shot, going quite a ways back, and it dawned on me:
*** NOT A SINGLE IMAGE IS OF A SMILING PERSON! ***
When did this happen? When did it become the norm to pose for photographs as if you are carrying the weight of a collapsing world on your shoulders? Note that I'm not "blaming" you; clearly that's how these people want to be portrayed. But WHY?

Ahh! The skin tones were the hard part. The walls are red and thus I gelled them with, well, red gels!! the skin however wasn't that easy. I built the lights one at a time.
I started with lighting Ashley. Beauty dish and a strobe behind her. The light was making her too "cold" against the red scene, so I had to "warm" her up using warming gels. Then followed the same thought process for the guys and the speedlites that were facing the guys. I purposely left the skin tones a little more red than usual to resemble a red light reflection off the walls. I didn't want the flashes to be too obvious. I hope I accomplished that. I think I did.

Okay. I started with the band pictures you just posted, then started clicking back one-by-one through that particular DPC portfolio of yours. I stopped when I reached the B/W shot of a guy sitting in a studio with some prints on the wall behind him, that's as far back as i went. Included a bunch of model shots. Not a smile anywhere :-)
Leo these look great but I thought you would save one for a free study.
As usual it was great fun shooting with you and I'm always ready to do it again.

Over bearing club owner's quote to us as we were getting ready to go in and set up. He had loads to sat as he loves the sound of his own voice but that's all I remember right now as he droned on for some time.

You're right. Pretty glum in that folder. However, plenty of smiles elsewhere in my port.
Maybe I ask them not to smile cuz I don't want the pic coming across as a snapshot, posed, or forced smile shot.
Thanks all, having a good laugh at this thread. I now have this picture in my head of Cole frantically working the smoke machine, Max consoling the crazy bartender and Leo trying to get all the models to stop smiling.

Frantic it was!
A little more background ot this shoot...
We were supposed to be In the bar for 5pm. Crazy owner didn't let us in till closer to 6!! Took us over an hour to set up lights for the first shot(upstairs). Didn't start shooting till after 7. Then at at 7:40ish the owner yells out.. You better be out by 8!!! (Originally it was 9)
So we had a mad scramble to set up the basement shot. Shot and cleaned everything up and out by 8.
Actually, now that I recall, we started shooting around 7:15 ish, I had lens issues so I wasted time with that, had to use Cole's camera. Then I had to deal with Cole saying that some guy was hot. And we had a good chuckle over that one..Readjust lights, so the guy wasn't hot anymore:)
So ya it was a frantic and good experience.
Glad I had my boys with me.

I am trying to generate more opportunities to shoot projects this.
I stopped doing weddings cuz I didn't like the pressure and frantic pace. This turned out to be just like that. But I had more control of the outcome.
I definitely prefer this over weddings!
