Why oh why oh why does my computer hate video all of a sudden? youtube video in particular. I've uninstalled Chrome, uninstalled Flash, then reinstalled Flash. Did not reinstall the other thing (Shockwave) and on the first try, I can play a video. Next try? It will start with a wee bit of sound, no video, then hang. Once I close that window (which I cannot always do), then reopen the browser, the computer will completely freeze. No mouse, no keyboard, no nothing. Hard restart with the "hold button for five seconds" bit.
What can I try? Really beginning to irritate the heck out of me.
Windows 7 Home, 64 bit edition. Nothing else running other than Yahoo messenger.
Start your Task Manager, or better yet download Procexp. Have it open when you try to watch a YouTube vidya, and see if anything is pushing your processor to 100%.
Have you tried it with another browser? If it works fine with Firefox, for example, then the issue is with the browser. If you still have the crashes, then the problem is something to do with the plugins. That at least helps top narrow down the source.
And yes, Spiff, it crashes very hard with Chrome. That's why I unistalled it.
I'm quite fed up with it actually. After waiting for a hard restart, going through all the startup stuff, I have to re-log into all the pages that normally keep my info - Google, here, etc. Makes no sense if it's a video driver/plug in issue, does it?
About ready to chuck the damn darn thing in the car and drop it off at Best Buy to pay someone to fix it.
I'll try that. It crashes IE so hard I have to log back in to all of my normal "keep my password" sites. Wipes everything out. VERY annoying...
Try clearing your temporary internet files (and your Windows temp files, for that matter). Either from the IE "Tools > Internet Options > Browsing History", or manually in the "Users > Deb > I dunno it's Winders 7 lol" folder(s).
yeah before giving the geeks your $$$ try the latest video drivers, and try system restore to an earlier date. in a worst case scenario, a hard drive reformat and windows install will take you personally maybe 1.5 hours or you can let the geeks do it for who knows how much. new pc should have come with a windows 7 recovery disc AND a drivers and utilities disc...
I updated Java, updated a video driver, have not yet had time to try to see if it works, though. Restarted the darn thing about 10 times yesterday and that was more than my patience could take. Will try again when I get home later today. And this lovely computer did NOT come with backup disks, but I did make a set. I have no idea where they are, though. Reinstalling everything takes at least the better part of a day or so, given all the software, the tweaks, the finding of the Photoshop actions (which are never where they are supposed to be), the extra apps, the extra actions, etc, etc. So I really hope not to have to go that route.
