Hi. I'm taking a photo of their baby in his baptism outfit. Any suggestions on how to pose the baby and angle of shot? I have a bean bag, so that will help, but beyond that, not really sure.
I don't know much about the technical side, but I think a nice pose would be with the baby reclining/supported on something simple and soft with maybe the mom tying the last bow or buttoning the last button on the christening gown. If you could do that with baby looking up towards mom, I think you'd have gold!
Sleeping babies are always sweet too. :) I hope you are able to share with us when the shoot is done!
I would try the shot both ways. I was first envisioning it with just hands, but if she can get baby to smile by being closer, than it would show a connection between parent and child. I was trying to figure out how to possibly encorporate a Bible into the shot, since that's kinda the point of the whole thing. Maybe parent holding the Bible open as if reading to the child?
Hmm...definitely giving me some things to think about.....especially the soft golden light. I was thinking more white/blue only to keep the gown white, but, I can always color balance the gown back a bit...
Both my girls were Christened when they were 2 months old. We also had that portrait shot done. Luckily they were pretty easy babies and not really fussy so it was pretty easy to get it. 2 months is the youngest that will connect or smile. The girl's wore their father's christening gown, My parents waited until we had moved back home to Texas after my Dad finished his military service so I wasn't christened until I was almost 2 1/2 with my sister who was about 3 months at the time. I am told that my feet did stick out of the bottom of my dress. I was standing on them, hiding in Father De Wolfe's legs as finished up the service. Oh well, but back the the baby shots.
The ones that I have of my girls that I cherish were to some extent, body parts, baby hands, baby toes. gentle gazes. If you can find the sweet moments and not the posted ones, it should make for better portraits. They can be a bit hard to catch though. Love the idea as a MOM and not as a photographer, of having baby looking up at Mom and Mom leaning over baby. I would have loved to have those shots.
anyway to do some of the shots inside a church? with the pews behind you in bokeh?...alot of churchs are open during the wk and usually the ministers are willing to help in anyway...just a thought
No. The baptism was a few weeks ago. They just wanted something simple with the baby in the gown. When I did my nephew's I did a whole bunch like that. :)
