The wife and I are 44 years old. Daughters 12 and 9.
For years we've gone out every Wednesday night from 7 to 10:30 to have dinner and play in a competitive quiz contest with friends, while leaving the girls at home with a sitter.
The pub quiz is finished and we should really figure something else out. Any ideas?
We're in Burlington, Ontario; so there is no shortage of fun stuff to do.
An idea I like is Flamboro Downs, to have dinner, wager on races, and/or do some gambling. Of course, the first thing the wife & I thought was, it has been fun in the past to bring the girls for races.
What do other 40-somethings do for fun on a regular basis?
Im not 40 Im 30 and my Husband is 38 but we like to go to the comedy club ... if you go during the week its usually inexpensive (or free if you agree to buy 2 drinks) the atmosphere is lighthearted and fun and of course laughter is great for the body and mind.

We have started going to Hoosier Park (horse racetrack) and we enjoy it. Not as much money spent as with a regular casino trip and we both have a good time. After going many times together we brought the kids...but they didn't have the attention span to sit through the races so we won't be bringing them again. The track is nice but eventually you'll hit the off season and be in need of another avenue to head down...
Great idea, we have one in town, too. Funny enough, every time I've been to one, I've been the poor bastage picked on by the comedian and/or emcee. But I've always had a fantastic time, and gone home with a face sore from laughing. :-D The wife thinks it's hilarious that I always get targeted.

Thats cause they pick on those they feel will respond and add to the show... my husband gets picked on alot too...
we love it... it helps destress us. we have missed the last few weeks and are actually "grumpy" about it.
We usually go out for cold beer and some food on a outdoor patio, and Burlington has some great ones as I'm sure you know. We've got to enjoy this great weather before it changes!
