The 5D Mark II has a ridiculous resolution and is $200 cheaper than Nikon's cheapest full-frame, the D700 (which, by the way, is begging for an update).
Do you really wanna spend $2500 on a camera, though? Buy the 7D for $1700 instead, then get the Sigma 8-16mm. If you do update to full-frame after that, though, the Sigma won't do you any good.

If your on a budget, I'm sure you can still find a 5D kicking around. New, or used could be an option. Although, the investment in a 5D markII would be sound and easily attainable. This 21mp body, should keep you happy for a long time. Plus it would be great with you EF lenses.
Just be prepared to sell the ef-s lens you have. As they will not be compatible. Although, you could keep them with the backup xsi. Or sell them out, for a 16 - 40 f4L, plus a little$. I my self am looking for a new full frame. I'l probably go the 5DII route, although the 1DsIII keeps calling. Anyone have a spare $7000?

Where are you seeing this? The Mark II is $100 more than the D700 at Amazon.
