So I recently did a "senior" photo shoot (with my buddy justamistere) and she (the senior) loved them! …
I gave her the smugmug gallery link to check out the photos and share with others. Smugmug has a social networking button with several options that will link people to the smugmug page from Facebook, email etc.

So my question is:
Is that enough?
Or should I encourage her to download watermarked images to put in her Facebook profile? I think that's what she wants to do and I want customers to be happy. I realize people could take screen-shots from the smugmug page anyway …
I suppose I am trying to promote myself a bit (this is a part-time gig but I enjoy it on the sideof my full-time job). So do I allow/encourage sharing screen-resolution copies with watermarks?

Just curious what others think.

I just had a senior portrait shoot and have been dealing with the exact same questions. I have a separate business page on facebook itself. I posted a few watermarked images on facebook and tagged her in them as kind of a sneak peek for the shoot. I'm not sure how your workflow works, I generally only do full edits on a few photos of the clients choosing. Since I don't like to post unedited work, it makes it harder for me to post the pictures before she chooses them. So I just do a few full edits of my own choosing to post as a preview of the shoot. I think it's a good idea to let them put them on just so long as you have a way of deterring them from stealing the images because then their friends get to see them and tell them which their favorites are. etc. I think people get more excited about their photos when their friends give good feedback.

I have my "photographic" page on Fbook too ¬ I like the idea of tagging the photos there.

Be aware that there are now utilities for Facebook that allow users to print photos directly through various services (Walmart, Snapfish, Target, and I think one or two others). You can disallow this function, but you will have to visit each provider individually, as I understood it.
