Those puppies should have only been loaded immediately before they were fired, and why fire real bullets into the air and not blanks.
Sometimes that is a great policy - however, my home defense weapon is always loaded, cocked and ready to fire once the safety has been disengaged. After all, an unloaded gun is almost as effective as a rock or baseball bat..
As per why fire real bullets? Well, they never said the guns were going to be fired at any festival, just that it's common for such behavior... One can assume those were either home defense weapons or hunting weapons, in which case, real bullets would indeed be useful.

So, get this...... A close friend came within inches of death, as they were out climbing in Durango Colorado when a rock above him was dislodged and destroyed most of his face..
Yeah, rocks can accidentally kill... But in the end I wasn't talking about accidental, I was talking about very deliberate use.
In the end it is not about guns themselves but stupid people with guns. A loaded gun being used as a prop is just plain stupid, both on the owners part who handed them out and the photographers part who used them without assuring they were unloaded.

Couldn't agree more, but, then again, I think we have FAR too many stupid people and I feel we live in a NERF society that makes it impossible for nature to follow it's intended course...

Yes, indeed, I think this may well have been a "natural selection" event (assuming it was the photographer who managed to shoot himself, should it have been the bride/groom or anyone else who shot the photographer, well, then, accidental homicide charges would likely be appropriate)

If a rock or a baseball bat are used irresponsibly, they most certainly can kill someone. A gun is just the same way; if it's used irresponsibly, it can kill.
