So, anyone in western Virginia got any ideas on where to go and shoot? Harrisonburg sucks.
not sure how far you are from Coal Mines but that is what came to mind is a coal worker getting off work or going into one of the shafts...but them maybe someone here doesn't think that is industrial???
Maybe some ideas on the site above. Saw some of this person's work yesterday @ the Shelburne Farm Gallery in Shelburne Vermont. He's got some great industiral images.
Coalmines are more in Southwest Virginia which a lonnnnngggg haul. From here to Wise or Buchanan County is probably about 6-8 hours one way. Not to mention my experience is that they're really touchy about people talking pictures around the mines. There is a place around here called Valley Proteins that looks really cook when it is lit up at night, but I've actually gotten chased away from there.
There's a few things locally that I think I'm going to try and shoot. I might try for Valley Proteins again. I hate Jess' hotdogs. I would rather eat a 7-Eleven hotdog than Jess'. YUCK!
I know where and what I'm going to shoot. I might be able to get my Industrial and narrow DOF shot at the same place! Here's hoping the plan gives good results!

Are you very far from Roanoke or Lynchburg? I think the train yards in Roanoke might be promising.
So, if farming is a kind of industry, why don't I see any farm pictures in the previous challenge? Why don't I see anything having to do with any of the other three areas besides the secondary sector of industry?

I think that some farming equipment could be considered industry...like a hay baler, plow, hay turner (can you tell I used to do haying), combine. Taken at the right angles there are so many gears and repetitive things that I think it would apply...and lord knows there are all kinds of farm equipment in your area.

Hmmmmmmm.... I have a co-worker who owns an old mill. I'm not sure any of the old gears are still in there though.... She did tell me that back in the day the owners kept the books on the walls, and that you can still see that.
oh, my those are wonderful pictures, but such a sad, sad time...I visited a mill in Paisley, Scotland where Coats threads were made and they talked about the child labor and how they were used because they were small and could get to places that adults couldn't oh the injuries...so very sad
