So my front door is annoying. When you open it from the outside the latch does not recess all the way and it takes some force to get it open. My kids have trouble with it. I'm trying to decide if it's fixable or just needs replacing. But to do that, I first need to know the vocabulary.
I can't for the life of me find the name for a door "knob" that has a lever you depress down with your thumb instead of turn. I've been trying to search Google, but haven't come across it yet (not knowing the word to put in, duh). I'm guessing the problem is specific to that because the inside of the door is a regular turn knob and it works fine when the door is opened from that side.

Gonna be the first thing I try. I'm just confused that it works well from one side but not the other. That makes me worried something is worn or broken.
Hmmm, I seem to have fixed it...but removing a piece. That never seems right. But it's working much better.
Why do they always send things out with spare bits and unneeded pieces? I think it's just justification to either raise the price, or avoid a patent. :)
You might want to take the whole assembly off and take it down to a lock smith, in most cases they can replace the worn parts and get it working again. Make sure to get a quote for repairs before they work on it to make sure it will be cheaper than just replacing the whole unit.
