They can use any photograph entered for what ever they want and don't need permission.
The Art museum here is running a photo contest but at least they only want to use the winning photos and not all of the ones entered. That kind of contest I feel better about entering because if they use my photo it means I got something out of it.
My husband and I have done a LOT of business with NewEgg in the past. We will not anymore, and furthermore I wrote them an email telling them this and expressed how appalling I find it that they would cavalierly take advantage of people in that way.
I like NewEgg as a retailer to buy stuff from. They are prompt, courteous, and have good prices.
If you take yourself too seriously about a photo contest that you refuse to enter, you'll wind up with no place to buy camera gear to make all that art that is too good to give away without attribution.

What does a photo contest by a retailer have to do with places to buy camera gear? I have no problem with entering a photo contest when I am not giving up all the rights to photo. I am a full time student and I do photography for the school paper and year book on the side for a little extra money. Every year they run a photo contest and it is the same deal. You give up the rights to those photos entered. They turn around and use the photos for advertising and what not. The winners get a few dollars but it is no where near what they would pay to buy the photographs. It is a cheap way to get photographs for advertisement and other uses. I believe that a lot of companies do this also. By doing this they also hurt the stock photography photographers because they are not buying stock images. For this reason I don't support such photo contest.
