When this challenge was announced, my first readtion was "Here's one that I will be skipping. I could never do that"! But then I started reading some of the conversations going on about how to approach people and the great satisfaction afterward. So I headed out at lunchtime last Wednesday, figuring that the crowds would make it a bit safer. I actually found someone and struck up a conversation, then asked about taking their photo. The answer was yes, so I fired off a few shots.
I then sat down and talked for a about 15 minutes more. He asked about my job, which led to a discussion about his father's job and some funny stories about his mom and dad. Toward the end of the conversation, he was much more relaxed (and so was I), so I asked if I could take a couple more shots which he obliged.
The whole experience was pretty great, and if I can find him downtown again, I am going to give him a photo of himself.
I'll have to work at being able to do this type of shot more often because the satisfaction can often be far more than just getting a great shot. |
