I have received many many post challenge PMs from folks that appreciate that I narrate my photos in the Photo Details. What they tell me is that the narrative enriches the photo and gives insight into the way I think about a photo. You can see an example here:
So, if you're up for it ... how about you all entering the Free Study this month "narrate your photo." You can even do it post-entry if you want ... even while voting is underway if you don't have the time before rollover.
Just a suggestion. what do you think?
Oh, and I have a killer narrative on my Free Study entry ... sort of a Hunter S. Thompson stream of consciousness thing ... but you'll have to wait for voting to complete to see it. sorry :(
I think you've got a great idea here. I appreciate it when people take the time to let others know what they were thinking when they put up a photo; whatever might be relevant that goes in the little "Photographer's Notes" box I am usually happy to read. One of my pet peeves is when I see a photo I really like, below which is that pesky "N/A."
As it happens, I already had something of a narrative for my FS entry, so I can only wonder if I could be said to have unwittingly taken you up on your challenge. :)
what a great idea, I always look to see what ya'll did in your editing steps and I always like to read a little bit about your shot and get a feel for what your experience was...Pictures maybe worth a 1000 words but it sure helps to have a narrative...lol

Super good idea. The thought process is important in photography. I actually have an Ansel Adams book with extensive notes on his image captures. It's really full of insights. Helps me in my quest for excellence in the field, when I know the "greats" have gone through the same travails.

I like the idea and IF I had a FS entry this month I would write a long narrative, but I don't. I do try to write something on each entry but not to the extent that you demonstrate so I'll have to press a little harder next time.

Great idea. I usually narrate a bit, sometimes more, sometimes less.
I tried a bit of something new on my entry this month, I've included a poem. I'm sure that won't much fix my entry, but I hope some people will enjoy the connection post challenge..
Thanks to coryboehne, levyj413, odriew, Ja-9 and the others previously mentioned, this is starting to feel a little like a side challenge. Anybody else interested in this?
Sign me up. I have a bit already up there about the where and how, but I will go back and do the why and when this weekend and fill in some details about processing.
Great idea.....I look forward to reading the narrative of each participant. I will try to give a narrative, a bit of an interesting story with my image, not making any 'what a great read' promises.
Interesting thing about narratives. I went out shooting for the street portraiture challenge this evening. Once I introduced myself and got to chatting and snapping pics with my subjects, they were all more than happy to talk about themselves and what they do. I have lots of background material for my notes in that challenge, if I can remember it all!
I very often narrate my entries. And add stuff during the challenge as well. But I never finish high enough to have anyone read my narratives and they're usually very depressing, too. My Free Study, which is doing very poorly as is normal, does have a lovely little narrative.
My attempts at the street portrait come with a complete novelette I've posted for my teammates. Maybe after that challenge I'll post the whole thing. Just remember, you have to really dive down into the challenges to find these little gems...
