I currently have a Canon 50D, and do mainly portrait work since I've basically stopped doing weddings. My question is: Is it worth upgrading to a 7D with grip or should I go right to the 5DmkII with grip? The difference in price where I live in Canada would be roughly $800.

Thoughts?

For portrait work? Little doubt that I would choose the 5DmkII. The 7D is a great camera, but the quality of the 5DmkII is amazing.

BTW: I have never used either camera... However I've researched both quite thoroughly... As one of those two will be my next body... And I've been avoiding EF-S lenses because there's a strong possibility it will be the 5DmkII...

For portraiture the 5D2 is head and shoulders above the 7D. Buttery-smooth.

What is it about the 50D that's making you want to upgrade?
