If you were familiar with the paintings of André Martins de Barros which served as the inspiration for my Book Challenge Pic
Would the result be any different? Some people dug it, and one person found it creepy which considering the source, I agree. I thought this image would have been unique and different enough for it to punch well into the top ten. So maybe I failed technically, maybe some of you didn't see the face and maybe almost all were unaware of what I had emulated. Thoughts?
Dunno about others. But I wasn't familiar with the famous work that inspired you. Also, it was hard for me to see the face (in fact I realized it is a face only after you pointed me to the inspiration).
Had you at least mentioned the original inspiration in the title, at least people like me would have given the deserving credit.
So looks like:
- inspiration not known to many
- execution hard to relate to a face
As it is, you got a decent vote from me. If the above were taken care of, I would have rated it as a possible 9.

when adding a thumb, you just need the image id, not the whole url.
So [thumb]//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=892917[/thumb] becomes [thumb]x892917[/thumb] but without the x! I added that so it would not show the thumbnail.

Instead of

you need to do
(I left spaces so you can see that you only enclose the image ID in the tags, not the full URL. If you remove the leading and trailing spaces in there, this is what you will get:
I'm just looking now, but I saw the face right away. The proportions of the face are a bit off, which makes it not as compelling as the paintings that inspired it.
A bit more vibrance and richer tonal range would have helped your score - definitely try this again with a less distracting background.
I had a hard time making out that it was supposed to be a face, though I eventually got it. I was not familiar with the original artwork either. I think you picked something tough to emulate in real life. Also, something about the lighting and/or processing didn't seem to have any pop to it.
I saw the face and I thought the whole thing was genius. Loved it! I didn't realize that it was inspired by the work of another artist. Thank you for introducing me to André Martins de Barros.
I didn't see the face - although it jumps out at me in the thumbnail - I just tried cropping it, just using my fingers against the screen and the face seems much clearer - maybe a much tighter crop ? - the very square uprights don't help me see the face
