Montana is a great place for a super wide, or fisheye. I was there a couple of years ago, about this time of year, and there are good photos everywhere. If you are in the parks, you can get pretty close to the animals, and probably would not find that a long telephoto would justify getting one just for the trip, and hauling it around the whole time.

I dropped an 18-70 over a waterfall on the 3rd or 4th day, so I used my older manual lenses for the rest of the trip. If you go to Hungry Horse, be sure to check out the helicopter rides over the mountains, or the rafting there. Both are memorable side trips compared to the ordinary driving around stuff.
There is a wonderful "Ford" museum at Flathead, and a very interesting place called the "Miracle of America Museum" at Polson.
