I have to pick up a hand held GPS for work today or tomorrow. I've used older models for doing geology and ground sampling years ago.
Part of what I may be doing is flying some access roads north of the Alberta oil sands in a helicopter. I'd like to be able to easily turn tracking on & off so I can dump road tracing points onto geology maps I have.
There are also a couple of waypoints I'd like to program in as I may land and grab a couple of samples. We use UTM coordinates and switch between NAD27 and NAD83, depending on the map data.
I've been a real office potato for a few years, and haven't looked at what's out there. I like a nice sized screen, and small & rugged. Able to handle dust & wet. Battery must last all day.
Any advice?
