FACT: Is it me, or is it nearly impossible (or at least very difficult) for a teenager using facebook in American society age 12-19, to take a photo that DOES NOT HAVE ANY motion blur, is overexposed, very low contrast Black and white, taken while looking into a mirror, or is holding a cat in front of their face.
I say this because looking through my facebook page and at pictures people my age have taken and decided to upload to facebook, all have one of the above mentioned errors. I seriously couldn't find a single photo that didn't include one of the above annoyances. I'm afraid it is becoming part of American teen culture to be absolutely as horrible at taking photos as possible.

Maybe it's me, maybe it's my friends, but this is scary. I never thought it would be that hard simply not to take a photo that has an obvious flaw.

But maybe your right, I guess I just never really understood how incredibly bad a picture could be. I actually have to work to be able to take a photo that bad. First I have to find a cat that I have given a really stupid name to hold in front of my face, I have to set the flash on my camera and find a mirror AND hold the cat in front of my face at the same time. In addition, I've got to lower all the contrast setting on my camera and find a way to get enough natural light in to create a very bad Black and White effect.

As a 19 year old, but mostly as a female I take extreme offense to your comment. Especially it coming from a 13 year old.
Are you trying to say that having male body parts makes it easier to keep a camera steady? To press a shutter button? To understand how cameras work?
Are you saying females are less CAPABLE of using a camera?

There are a ton of pretty well known/established cliche's to facebook/myspace pics, and people have been railing against them forever. Having said that, there's little point to uploading a quality photo to facebook because it looks terrible anyway... Resizing on your own to FB dimensions helps but doesn't eliminate it. So do I upload pics to facebook? Yeah, but they're more crappily taken snapshot pics that document fun times with my friends and I put them up for others to reminisce and laugh about, so I could care less about the quality, it's purely about the moment they contain.
Just give the Facebook pics a 2 and move on. (They will then PM you asking what that means. Might be a way to get to know some cute girls...) Most people are not interested in taking good photos and probably don't even know what one looks like. My daughter prefers using her phone camera, but she is working as working as a camp counselor this summer and cannot have here cellphone with her on the job, so she actually took a cheap P&S with her.
