Just saying Hi. my name is Dave and I currently live in maryland, planning on moving to texas. I got my first SLR a few months ago, and I want to do anything i can to improve my skills!
There are many great folks here that can help you out with questions, tips, etc. Don't forget to stop by the "Learn" --> "tutorials" for some great tips as well. There are a host of good discussions in the forums about many topics.
weeeelll now that you mention it i think that you should judge on content alone because life is beautiful and people always try and its really mean and it will totally hurt their feelings to give them a low score even if its a picture of something really pretty like a butterfly... or a unicorn.

LOL! I tried entering a unicorn, but it was DQ'd for photoshopping the horn on. Then I tried again and it got hammered by voters because they thought it was cruel to hot glue the horn on a horse. Ya can't win around here. :-/
What else can I add? Oh, yes. Make sure to crank your ISO way up to 1600, so that you can get that nice "artistically grainy look" that nobody appreciates. Also, make sure to save it with a very small file size so that I can leave one of my comments about JPEG compression. If I can't leave at least 3 of those in a challenge, I go away feeling unfullfilled.
