I'm just putting in a plug for voting on missed focus.
Some people seem reluctant to vote on missed focus, because it's not their style, some because it's not their genre, some because they claim they don't know anything about it. But this is a chance to explore something new. If you hate them all, you hate them all. But I think you'll be surprised and find that there are some true gems in there. The funny thing is, that what you think are gems, others will think are trash and vice versa. Remember, this site is all about learning. What an excellent way to experience something that perhaps you haven't deeply explored.
There are less votes in this challenge than I've ever seen on DPC -- let's start a "get out the vote" campaign!

I voted for about half of these so far, I found in general I was giving out pretty low votes with the occasional exceptions of very high votes.
I've already given out two 10's, four 9's and six 8's, which is more than I will often give in an entire challenge! Mind you, I've also given out a lot of 3's and 4's (don't hate me!).

On the ones I voted for i've been giving high scores to shots that WOULD HAVE looked GREAT if the focus was correct.
At the same time, I've been giving lower (not low) scores to shots that look VERY GOOD in their blurred state but would have seemed "plain" or "blah" if focus was correct.
I personally was quite surprised at the quality of some of the images in this challenge and a few of them had a very Impressionism quality to them. Kudos to all who participated in this challenge.

Sounds backwards from what I am doing. If it would have looked great in focus, but the blurred state takes away from it, that does not earn it a higher vote. If the blurred state enhances the image and gives it interest, THAT gets a higher vote from me. I see the challenge as using the out of focus aspect to make it interesting.

I'm with you on that, i'm voting on the shot itself, not what the unblurred version could have been. My interpretation of this challenge is to use the focus (or lack of) to enhance the shot.

I think it does not.
According to the challenge description the idea is to present a photo in which the lack of focus on main subject, or in the whole image, DOES improve the image. That is 180 degrees from "giving high scores to shots that WOULD HAVE looked GREAT if the focus was correct.".
What can I say, you inspired me. It's been a long time since I voted, but I figure if there's a challenge I need to vote on it's one like this. I'm pretty confident with where I've scored the images, but might come back and do some more commenting. There's one thing I felt many people had wrong. There were a lot that I would say weren't simply "Missed focus", but were "Missed composition and focus." I feel that to meet the challenge, the composition should really work both ways. Many would clearly not look right compositionally if the "subject" were in focus. I typically knocked off a point or two for those instances.

So those missing points are only awarded to images where the composition would work if the photograph did NOT meet the challenge? In your voting are any points reserved for those that used the misfocused blur AS part of the composition? My high scores were often images where, without the missed focus it was not a great image, but the addition of the blur shifts the way one sees the composition. They use the blur to created a drama, that would be lacking if you imagined this central point of the challenge away before you voted.
