I've mentioned it a few times... well... once or twice... yeah, I know, I just keep rambling about the thing. It's an Olympus c-720 Ultra Zoom. It finally arrived yesterday, so I've had it for just over 24 hours now. Already I've taken 2 photos I'm proud of, one of which I submitted to the "Body Parts" challenge. The other one was just before I took a shower an hour ago, when I saw this thing on the wall. Instead of screaming and running away, I grabbed my camera and learned how to put it into macro mode:

I took another photo last night before I knew how to use anything other than auto mode and the zoom, which turned out fairly well. This was without a tripod, and on the default quality settings, and all kinds of bad things:

Any comments?

"Welcome back!" I use my Olympus in auto mode all the time and often get amazingly satisfactory results. Good of you to brave the spider. Just "for the record" I'd have shot one with the flash as well.
Perth At Night I envision as a business card for a club or a music promoter, with or without the moon. Since it's a little blurry, I'd mess with it a lot -- either more blur or way oversharpening -- just to see what happens, but it would work fine as-is...a really nice scene.

Weird, I considered using the flash for a second and then decided that would be stupid when I was so close to the spider... but that was probably just an instinct left over from my old camera :). I really like the shadow I got in that photo though, which is why I cropped it the way I did. Oh well, the thing is dead now... usually we try and catch those spiders in a glass and put them outside, but it was on the weather boards so we couldn't do that... my boyfriend had to use the vacuum cleaner approach! It makes me scared to do any vacuuming for a while.
