This makes me wonder how many times my photos have been voted down just because you Mac wienies can't see straight. 8-)
Love Muffin, I don't vote down photos because they are too bright or too dark; I take into account that getting a PC to work much less calibrating to any standard is a feet that usually requires holy intervention. I vote down photos because they are... well... bad. :-)
Ohhh Love Biscuit, surely you're not hintimating that my photos are bad, are you? Please tell me it isn't so. :(

Not only an issue with Macs. Pictures that look good at home look washed out on my work laptop. I now make it a habit to check a submitted image on my work laptop and adjust it so it looks good both at home and at work (a compromise).
The idea of post processing is to prepare the image for the media it is to be presented on. For images that are to be presented on the web; that involves preparing them for the 2.2 gamma standard. And, from what I understand, many printing agencies are wanting the images submitted to them in sRGB -- based on the 2.2 gamma standard.
"although gaming is sooo very much better on a mac."
What? No gamers use Macs for gaming. There aren't enough games on the market for Macs.
I build my own computers so Mac is not a choice. I don't want some snob designer thinking he/she knows what I want in a computer. I select each component myself.
Unreal Turniment 2004 is out for mac. and if you played it on 1 you would see that the graphics are so very very much cleaner than a on pc!
although not many games are avalibule for mac. one can use vurtule PC for mac. and play any PC game out on the market on a mac. comp. so your rong. lots of games can be played on mac.
congrats. on the buliding of your own computers though thats a nice way to go. i've done it once or twice.
but that doesn't change the arts industry and the printing industry they still use the good ole' mac. and they arn't chainging any time soon (unless their jobs are "out sorced"by bush and his gang)
so see if you don't have a design job you can't be a"snob designer".
get a new attitude!!!

Congrats. On the building of your own computers though that's a nice way to go. I've done it once or twice.

Do we really need another Mac vs PC thread? I think this issue has been hashed out a million times already. Everyone will say their platform/OS is better than the other for whatever reason. Why can't we just accept that there will always be differences? I realize that the PC is better in some areas and worse in others just like the Mac. I've accepted that fact and I use Macs daily and cringe when I need to use a PC. I'm sure many others feel the opposite. Let's move on and take photos instead! :)
thank you i've had this argument w/my friends meany times and that is always what we come to please just drop it.
I agree.
What I don't agree with is that any printer would request files in sRGB colorspace.
It's a limited colorspace compared to other RGB options and most printers *I* know
of (being "in the business" so to speak) use 4-color (or more) presses - CMYK. So
they don't want an RGB file at all.
Macs and PCs do operate - typically - at different gammas, but I have never once
seen an image that was well-processed and saved properly for the web that looked
bad on my Mac.
Unfortunately, all the color-matching and color settings on a platform and within
an application can be very difficult to understand and master (10 years I've been
doing this design gig and still have issues) and likely contribute to the problems
people experience editing and saving images for the web.
I would say the biggest problem is simply different monitors. Different manufacturers,
different copies of the same model, etc etc - ALL different and in need of a good
calibration, at least monthly, to be their best. Also, a good video card should not be
discounted. LCDs? Wouldn't buy one, even an Apple display (which are some of the
best LCDs available) as a CRT just renders so many more subtle shades, accurately.
Ok, there's my Rant. Love your Mac? Love your PC? Good for you. Now spend some
loving on that display, video card and a calibration system. :)
Mac user here, and that video reminds me of my days on a PC rather than on my Mac....
1.8 is the standard for print because the clarity of the pictures that much better, 2.2 is the standard for the web because IE became a standard, not for any quality or logical reasons.
Anyway, to each their own. I have used both on a regular basis, but only spend my money on Macs.=)

I wonder why the PC people are "RIGHT," then...based on this..
Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft propose the addition of support for a standard color space, sRGB, within the Microsoft operating systems, HP products, the Internet, and all other interested vendors.
Sorta, but not sorta topic. So what is everyones thoughts on Adobe DNG at this time? Are you using it?
