okay, so judging by the photos there's obvious a light source so it wasn't completely dark or anything. Maybe it's a matter of there being enough light that the sensor didn't have to compensate hugely, therefore, not tons of noise.
Just a thought.
I shot photos with my 10D last week at ISO800. When the sun hit just right there was wayyyyy less noise, but when it went behind a cloud the noise was terrible.
I've shot with the 10D at ISO 1600 with little or no noise. It all depends on the subject.
Hope nobody thinks I`m trying to imply that the 20D beats all the competition here.
I have absolutely no experience with DSLRs and am experimenting to find out what works and what doesn`t, I`ve posted here for an evaluation from people who can compare.
My own view is that it produces much better images than I was prepared for at such a high ISO setting and under conditions (floodlighting)where I expected a to see a lot of noise.

That's because noise is mostly dependent on shutter speed - less light, longer shutter speed, for the same exposure...

This was no indication that you were. I was just making a statement based on experience with my camera.
Your shots look great to me. I see some minor noise in the full sized crops but not as much as some cameras I've used at their lowest setting. But, at the risk of sounding picky, I could make better judgements on the 20D's noise level, if I knew aperture and shutter speed as well as ISO. But I'd venture to say that Canon's claims for the reduced noise levels will hold up and that the 20D sets a new standard in it's price range. Thanks for sharing.

Yes...between that and the IS on my 17-85mm lens, a whole new world of opportunity has opened up for me..now if I can just get smart enough to take advantage of that..I`m in business !
