Think creative here.
For those not having architectural blessings to shoot, think in the simplistic mode.
Macro is a good alternative due to the dof and the impression it creates.
Hmmm... painted parking lot lines, a couple of 2x4's shot real low and with minimal dof, a pipe/straw/tube, etc. done the same way, vertical blinds, telephone lines, a sidewalk, and the list goes on.
And on...
My take: I think everyone would agree that the first one does. The second would be the one I think a lot would say no, and the third would be 50/50. Of course, I like them in reverese order of that! My favorite is #2, then #3, and then the more common #1.
This challenge seems rediculously hard. What do you have after you take away the standard railroad tracks, roads, rivers, powerlines, tree rows, and fields? It's not something easily created in a small place. Anyone have ideas they're willing to share on this?
I felt the same way at first. But I have spent the last couple of days looking at everything around me to see if I can find something and sure enough it was right under my nose...well actually above my head. Just be really observant of all your surroundings and I'm sure you'll come up with something.
Yep, also beware of police, FBI, etc. around railroad tracks

I bet that there are thousands of stories like The Artist’s Statement, but that few are as well expressed or documented. Basically, this photography student is assigned to take a motion shot, so he tries to take an action shot as a train goes over a famous local bridge. It’s legal, he’s even checked with the park rangers, but the local cops and then the feds come and act in a rude, intimidating and I’d say unconstitutional manner.
One of the many many costs of the 9/11 tragedy is that the reaction to it has given some of the worst tendencies in law enforcement an undeserved patina of legitimacy...
Good point, I was about to go out today to a nearby train tracks to get some shots....come to think about it, perhaps I'll wait until later in the evening and or this weekend after J.Kerry left my State. He's is in my state rideing the rails has he speaks...perhaps it wouldn't haven been a great idea to be stomping around in isolated areas of the main railroad system in Missouri today....last I need is some feds bothering me about some pictures for a on-line contest....:)

I am new here, and I am not sure if it is allowed to change
the image to grayscale - after it was taken, with photoshop.
I can't find the way to change the mode to b&w in my canon EOS-300D rebel. Anyone can tell me how it is done (and if it is allowed...).

The rebel does not have this functionality. You can convert your photos to b/w with your image editor. This is allowed in both basic and advanced editing.
