Well done Maria Sharapova (17 years old).

She just blew Serena Williams away in straight sets then tried to call her Mum on her mobile during the presentation ceremony! How to set up a lucrative mobile phone sponsorship deal in one easy step...

Seventeen years old, beautiful blond, came to USA with her parents at age seven, lived in Florida and now California. Seems to me she could be called a Russian-born American since she has lived here more than half her life. She really dominated Serena today and I suspect we'll be seeing much of her in the future. Serena deserves kudos for the gracious manner shown in accepting what must have been a mentally crushing defeat.

Like in any sport it's good to see others at the top instead of the usual, but I hope Armstrong wins the tour (Tour de France- Biking) again =)

Yes, she is very impressive. I wasn’t surprised to see her get to the finals because she really is a great tennis player, but I was surprised to see her beat Serena that easily. I expected it to be a closer match, with Serena winning in the end. It was great to watch a new champion being born. If she can stay healthy, she may eventually be one of the best of all time. She certainly has the game for it; and the composure.
