So, who in the LA area is up for a trip to Santa Claria area to see/photograph the big rocks? I don't know where they are (Eric does, so we'll ask him later).

We'll work out a date over the next few days and see what's best for all of us and post it here. Glad those two dates work for you. I work Mon through Sat so it's hard to take off to go have fun, ya know! :)
Vasquez Rocks is where I was thinking about. The only thing I am concerned about is how crowded it will be. I have been there when there are a lot of people and it is hard to get a good shot with without people being in the photo. I would suggest going as early as possible other wise we might be disappointed!
I'm down for getting there when they open! Let me do some research on the internet and see if I can find out what time they open. I will post when I find out.

DIRECTIONS:
From Los Angeles, take the I-5 northbound to the Antelope Valley Freeway, the 14 east. You will drive about 25 minutes and will see the Vasquez Rocks off to the left-hand side of the freeway. Exit right at Agua Dulce Canyon Road and turn left, and you will drive under the freeway and across the Sierra Pacific Railroad and wind uphill until you reach Escondido Canyon Road. Make a right turn and you will see the park off to your right and will be right in front of it, as you enter from Escondido Canyon Road. There is no park fee!
PS: I found a phone # (661.268.0840), too. There's a recorded message that gives the park hours (8-7:30) 7 days a week.

If you guys want to try and car pool somehow, I think a good meeting point would be somewhere near interstate 5 and the 405. I can fit 3 people in my truck. Any suggestions on a meeting point?
I live in Chinatown, where do you all live? I am up for carpooling. I can fit 3 others as well. So, whoever wants to drive...
We can meet down by the 405 and the 5 if you want. Where is there to park down there? If any of you want to meet me in Downtown, I can drive us to the meeting spot, or the whole way.
Make SURE you all remind me to wear sunscreen and a hat. I am still lobster from last weekend!!!!

For anyone in the LA area just returning to DPC after a long weekend, the LA DPC'ers are going to the Vasquez Rocks very early this coming Sunday morning. Does anyone else want to join us?
Greg, I don't want to take such a unique & far-away trip without you. I am sad you are so discouraged. Just take a break from challenges for a while and go out taking photos just for fun, of stuff you LOVE and stuff you enjoy photographing. Get back into it for YOUR reasons, not for challenges. Then, we will all go to the rocks when you are ready. :)
Chuck & Eric, do you want to do something simple and local like go to the trains in Griffith Park?
Well, the trains are definitely a suggestion. The zoo is also nearby, so that might make for a side-trip if anyone got bored with trains.
Another thought I had, and I don't know if anyone is interested, but for $3.00 apiece, we could get a day pass on the metro and shoot around hollywood, universal city, downtown L.A. and other areas. Some of the stations themselves have some pretty cool artwork too.
In the end, I'm up for whatever everyone else decides.
I was thinking of something common, that won't exclude anyone that can't go (meaning something close by, easy to get to and something that everyone in LA has already been to). I'd like to get a new angle on some things.
How about doing some macro-type photography in the early morning? We could do that anywhere!!!
