For all of those who have spoken here or emailed me asking to 'tone down' my comments and change my writting style.......... I invite you to please visit my profile and see the comments that have just recently been left by a half dozen individuals on all my pictures and past entires.
This should serve as an example and warning of what happens when you speak your mind on this site. So please, for your own sake - just keep writting those 'nice shot' comments if you must, keep your ideas in the forums to yourself, and this won't happen to you.
Thanks oskar (a past ribbon winner), mavrik, xion, heida, Beagleboy, and nazqul for trashing all my pictures because you disagree with my opinion. You must represent the true spirit of DPChallenge - the cream of the crop here - I am sure everyone is proud of what you've accomplished. Bravo!

If you are gonna dish it out the way you do, you need to be prepared to take it the same way.

but was he doing it to be annoying, or to be helpfull?
Well guess what? Once the challenge is over we get to see all of the "insightful" comments you left to what appears to be a lot of people. I'm sure if you hadn't started the thread people would have just moved on with their lives, either marking your comment helpful or not. You brought all this on your self.
When someone insult me that my photo doesn't cut mustard and I should spend more than 5 mins to submit to a challenge,me, who is spending 4-6 hours daily doing photos in last 16 months,5 minutes,GRRRR !
I can be funny too,just give me a chance ! :-)
Ah don't worry I don't know what you did but I learned too that it is bad to speak your mind here, probably most of the people here are loners desperate for affection and can only handle beautiful laudative words. It's probably the only reason they do photography also because that way someone could have a reason to tell them a few kind words.
The worst case is when a digital newbie walks in here and start teaching us how to handle cameras !
It's like a walking into a Army base and telling soldiers that they don't know how to hold a gun !
Part of the issue is how we take what is written. It's very easy to automatically take the negative side of a comment.
For instance... 'What were you thinking?' can be taken as 'What did you take this for? It's a bad rendition of a photograph.' or as 'What were you trying to portray when you took this photo?'. I prefer to take it as the latter. It shows me that what I was trying to get across to the viewer wasn't clear.
How something is written is one thing, how we interpret it is another. The hard part is separating ourselves from our images so we don't have an emotional (knee jerk) reaction to the comments we don't agree with.
edit: Also, it's very easy to assume the photographer approached their photo in a certain way or applied a certain technique. Most of the time the assumption is wrong.
I just finished reading all the comments he made to images so far and I find all of them fair and helpful, and I think if anyone finds any of those offensive the person may be in need of urgent therapy. Unless he made some other comments that don't show up in his profile yet, this is really insane.
I am new here and was not familiar with your 'style' of comments. I went to your page and read some of the comments you left people. There is a HUGE difference between leaving constructive critique and being down right mean. I saw several comments you made that were meant to hurt the persons feelings or show your superiority; the majority of your comments were rude and unhelpful. Some of your comments contained very helpful information and you seem to want to help others by giving your advice and years of wisdom, but you are going about it all the wrong way. Make a fresh start and continue to be helpful, just not so brash. I am here to learn how to take better photo's and I am relying on your comments and critique to help me, if I want someone to be rude to me I'll just phone up my ex mother-in-law hehe
I do think you make some valid points in your original post, unfortunately it could easily read as both insulting and arrogant. I don’t believe you really meant for it to come off sounding as strongly as it did, this is a problem with the internet in general and way we end up with so many flame wars. I take from comments that others have made that you kind of went on a commenting rampage, showing your frustration at what you saw as photos that were wasting your time. I am not at all surprised at the response you have received even if I think some of it may have gone a bit too far.
As for your photographs they are ok, not great but ok. I know that there is much that I can learn from this site and I know that there are photographers that are much better then I am, oddly they have never left a message that I would consider even close to rude. I think the thing that people have found the most objectionable is your apparent arrogance, here again I am not sure you realize how strongly you come off.
As for the people who are attacking Glacierwolf I fully understand why you might want to but this is beginning to turn into some kind of mob scene. He makes an easy target but I think it would be best overall if we let this one die out.
I hope I have not offended anyone in this, truly it is not my intent.
I feel what is important to remember on this site... is the fact that we have a wide variety of people... and a wide variety of skill levels, as well as a wide variety of emotional levels. I feel that you should pretty much always speak your mind, but do it in a way that is constructive criticism. The comments I read that are available to read at this point seem very contructive so far, but there are parts about them, that are somewhat bothersome. Just keep in mind you really don't know WHO you are leaving the comment for... The blurry coins might have been taken by a four year old with a really crappy camera... you just never know. Speak your mind, but do it in a helpfull way. If all you have to say is why the hell did you enter this? or what were you thinking or whatever... thats not really constructive. Thats my two cents. Although I do not approve of what everyone did to your photos either.
There's no doubt that Kevin brought this upon himself. He came with an inflated ego. In that respect he's not alone though.
I don't condone Kevin's actions nor attitude; and I also feel an equal disdain and contempt when I see someone else tagged his photos who has an average vote cast of 3.37 Perhaps s/he too should be asked, "What were you thinking?"
We've been through this before when he posted about the "Out Of Place" challenge when he just started here. He was rude and arrogant then and got shot down for it, resulting in him deleting his original post.
Can we just move on, don't give him any more attention, that's what he wants.

My take on all this is if you get a rude comment that you feel is out of line contact the administrators and let them either remove it or talk to the commenter. Going back and leaving rude comments to the other person is sinking to their level and the very depth of childishness. It's all very petty and sad.
In total agreement here.....In the 1 1/2 years I have visited this site...I have never seen this done on this scale, Then again.. SC....could have locked the threads

I say he had it coming to him. Not once did he post a public appology or seem sincere that he wanted to help. Now he tries to play the victim. Boo-friggedy-hoo.
The only time he writes is to boast how superior he is due to his experience and photo judging wife. I don't mean to discredit her GW, but if she really is selecting your best work she either a) can't tell a photo from a bag of rocks or b) doesn't have much to work with in terms of quality in her selection if this is what a "photo judge" considers a winner.
Please oh please write a critique on one of your photos, there's tons of garbage you could come up with when looking at your work, right? You're already the laughing stock of DPC, just insult yourself, learn some humility, and appologize. You want some respect, you have to earn it by showing some.
as i said in the other thread: I find it very very embarassing (?) what's happening with the comments on Kevins pictures. If this is meant to teach him a lesson, i think it won't. It just makes the atmosphere here ever more harsh. If you find this guy is out of line, don't lower yourself to his level. Be the bigger one and ignore.
