It may "meet the challenge", but it isn't going to score well.
If you want to complain about your score, then enter a photo that hits voters over the head with the obviousness of how it fits the challenge. If you enter a picture of a Saab 340 airliner and get "doesn't meet the challenge" comments, you have something to complain about. But if you are going to take a picture of a insert off-the-wall, non-blatantly-obvious whatever here and claim that your picture meets the challenge because technically it depicts a scene that contains an "automobile", then you're going to get low scores and "doesn't meet the challenge" reactions from some voters. Simple as that. (Remember, the rules say "While voting, users are asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly.")
Scoring well on DPC is not just about taking interesting, technically-good pictures, it is also partly about understanding how voters vote. IMHO, if you don't take that in to account when looking for your shot during the week, you reduce your chances of a high score.

For a craft that requires a vivid imagination, I feel that less and less of it is used each challenge. Maybe it just doesn't kick in during the 2-3 seconds that are spent on each photo.

Eddy - we know that's how to score highly here. That's what we're complaining about.
1) Planes trains, and automobiles. How can you get more black and white than that?
2) Who cares "how" to take pictures for challenges to please the masses. If you like it, then thats all that matters.

I was really nervous that I'd get a lot of 'doesn't meet challenge' comments on my photo, since the form of transportation is not exactly the main focus of the image. To be sure, I have lots of those transportation items in there, but they are in the background. I love the image, and I'm plesantly surprised that it is doing really well - by far better than I expected it to :)
As far as voting on the race cars / fighter jets, I think I'm going to count them. Race cars are only just more specialized versions of my go-fast car. I did photograph it, but decided not to submit that one. I assumed I'd see many go-fast car photos. After all, how much different is road-ready Ferrari from a production race ferrari? I say that there isn't that much.
I should add that I didn't submit for exactly the fear of that kind of voting, however.

If you had, you would have gotten a VERY high score from me, would've picked this for a ribbon. But then, my top picks rarely end up in the top ten :-(
all these threads about what meets the challenge are getting to be ridiculous. a 5 year old kid understands what automobiles and planes are better than people here.

After the challenge I would like to see a follow-up to this thread.
Comments about this challenge and complaints of "not meeting the challenge" began to surface less than one hour after the voting began. I had amassed a huge total of 15 votes by that time and 0 comments. Hardly enough time to conclude the challenge had been tainted.
By the tone of this thread I expect to either find a great deal of "Does not meet the challenge" comments... or conclude that this is mostly high drama.

I posted that picture for fun ... it was taken by a 5 year-old for an earlier Transportation challenge. My entry is is probably eligible for those DNMTC comments ... if it gets comments at all.
