I think DPC is awesome because of the talent of the members and because in each challenge you're presented with images different than what you imagined or submitted but no less applicable to the challenge and it makes you think differently and broadens your perspective and makes you better.
If it wasn't for DPC, I probably would never have even owned a DSLR and all the photography equipment I've spent a lot of money on over the years. I would likely never have gone beyond family snapshots. I wouldn't have spent thousands and thousands of hours over 13 years toiling away on photoshop, in the forums, online photo gear sales and reviews, etc. I think it is safe to say that were it not for DPC, my energy would have been focused on work, my real life business would be thriving, I'd have a bunch more money in the bank and would probably have the house paid off by now.
Oh yeaaah, DPC is awesome. Awesome like heroin.
You'd have just found some other pastime to blow your paycheck on. Golf, classic cars, motorcycles, real drugs, band camp, BDSM gear, etc...
DPC is awesome 'cuz it has kept me from moldering away into a total couch potato, and I've met a lot of really interesting people, and it's given me something constructive to do in my retirement (i.e. help run the place) :-)
I learned almost everything about photography from this site and it’s users and therefore renewed my membership even though I never get a chance to check it out anymore :)
DPC is the reason I'm no longer stuck in a 9 to 5 job. I really couldn't be happier with the way things turned out and if I had never found DPC, I wouldn't be here. Sounds cheesy, but it's true.
It's one of those threads that things kind of go off the rails in a funny and weird way that I rarely see other places. What could have been a place and reason for someone to get their nose out of joint just ended up being hilarious.
