If it's gonna be a bona-fide challenge, then the winners are as usual; 1st, 2nd, third and HMs. The original theory of the challenge when suggested years and years ago was to give the brownies a chance to shine without competition from the luminaries. But by this time many, many luminaries are also brownies, so I'm honestly not sure what sort of structure one would wish to place on the "Brown Masters" challenge.
Can we have some serious discussion of what would be the most desirable challenge description, criterion for eligbility, etc? For example; it's easy to say 0% = Brown but if there are more than a 100 entries that isn't true. I have at least one 0% that finished next-to-last,

Actually, i liked my description for this :) I mean, I'm not insisting on its wording, but the idea of the challenge is supposed to be fun, and so the tone of the description should definitely be fun too. does that make sense?
How did submission work in the masters' free studies? are the submission pages visible to everybody, but there's an honor code in place so that only masters submit?

I wouldn't be interested in voting on or viewing or participating in a challenge with images that are crafted to score poorly. I suggest a challenge that is geared to photos that are sincere efforts to score well. That approach would be the most constructive for DPC.

DPC is built up of such a wide variety of members who each have their own very personal (and hence immovable) preferences for photography that there is nothing that will be ubiquitously "constructive". The only thing that can be productive in the long run is to have diversity in challenges to match the diversity of the preferences. This certainly means that nobody will love every challenge. And I think that's only fair and right.
So please suggest challenges that suit you! I hope they will be taken up, and I hope you will do well in them. That's what I'm trying to do here. But for my own preferences and (maybe) twisted view into what I hope would be a fun and amusement to those who might think like me.

By the way, masters are those who have received more than one ribbon. Which means there are three times as many budding masters than browns per challenge (blue, red and yellow). I would like to suggest that those who have finished in the bottom three more than once would be eligible as recognised brown masters.

It really doesn't matter to me anymore. But, other members may care.
These are really good questions, and I think I missed your point first time 'round.
I would feel uncomfortable to get people to vote or submit in any way different to how they normally would.
I think participants should race for ribbons if that is what they normally do, but I would hope that they would utilise styles that are more represented in the brown-region.
Some people of course will want to with the brown's brown, and they should do that too!
It would kind of be a free for all, and an outlier in DPC's challenge history. I would love that! :)

I was going to ask if we could wait until the results of the "burst of colour" challenge because it looks as though I'm headed for my second brown, but with this suggestion I'd be in! I hope this idea will fly. Brown, browner, brownest!
