The other day John Kerry was talking to a group of children at the Vietnam Memorial Wall. At some point during the talk a guy starts heckling him. Senator Kerry becomes so enraged he brazenly flips the guy the bird right in front of the kids. Man, what an inspiration for small children everywhere. I believe a similar incident inspired young Bill Clinton while meeting with JFK in the rose garden.
I love it when someone asks John Kerry a real question at a press conference or an "interface" with the "public". He flips out and looses his cool so quickly...
Bush may be a piss poor speaker, but at least he doesn't resort to 4th grade antics after a slight nudge!
What really irks me is that when George Bush does something silly or sticks his foot in his mouth somehow - it's all over the papers and news. However ..... if Kerry does, you very rarely hear about it.

You should read this if you think Bush is all that. Some of it is quite dismissable, but the bulk of it is fact based.
It is interesting to look in to the background on this. The person who asked the 'real question' or 'started heckling' has quite a bit of a past with John Kerry. He is the president of 'Veterans against John Kerry' and spends most of his life attacking or heckling Kerry when he can get near. The person's name is Ted Sampley, and here is a press release from John McCain on this person:

I am well familiar with Mr. Sampley, and I know him to be one of the most despicable people I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. He is dishonorable, an enemy of the truth, and despite his claims, he does not speak for or represent the views of all but a few veterans. The many veterans I know would think it a disgrace to be considered a comrade or supporter of Ted Sampley."

I would like to take a poll to see how many of those kids had/had not seen someone give someone else "the bird" before ... my own personal guess is that more than half can do it equally well with either hand ...
I suppose Mr. Kerry could have responded in a more "Presidential" way, like having the guy handcuffed and dragged off, or maybe getting the IRS to conduct another audit on him ...

It doesn't really matter who heckled him or if there were children present. What matters is his absolute lack of class and restraint. That combined with his apparent love for the F-word leads me to think the guy's got a short fuse. Now that I've seen how he handles skiing accidents and public heckling I'm wondering how he'd act in a real world crisis.
And of course the children were in no way shape or form impacted by the polite, soothing phrases I'm sure Mister Sampley was directing at Senator Kerry. :)
If one is expected to grant a waiver to a response "in kind" vis-a-vis Kerry is to be excused because Samply was crude, then one must be likewise expected to grant a waiver to the Abu Ghraib actions in light of the actions of the mob that killed, hung, and burned the U.S. contractors earlier.

I totally agree. I am from Kerry's home state, and frankly this information does not make me feel all fuzzy and warm about him. (Not that I feel all fuzzy and warm about any politician.. but...).

You're missing the point. Is Mr. Sampley running for public office? There are lots of people that do undignified things in front of children. However, I'd expect a publicly elected official show a little more class. I also think it gives us a little insight into the guy's character or lack thereof. Do you feel confident electing a leader that can't show self-restraint in such a frivolous matter?

I guess you right wing pundits have nothing better to do with your time than talk about a non-issue like flipping the bird...As if Boy George has never done any cursing. Why don't you talk about some real issues like if King George the Lessor's friends' at Enron have been illegally manipulating the California energy market to drive up prices. Or how VP Tricky Dicky has not disclosed what energy companies he met with during meetings in 2001 that helped to shape his energy plan for the country. It's all about partisan politics for you guys, but no real substantive issues do you bring up.
Curious about this, seems the only place that reports anything about it is newsmax.com or points back to newsmax.com. You'd think in the current media frenzy around both lead candidates for the election in the US that someone, somewhere other than this one web site might have mentioned it or even have a picture, given the photographic mob that follows these guys around.
I'm sure RonB in his usual fact checking way will be all over this looking for the truth behind the story. The only thing I could find about newsmax.com was a description of it as the Right Wing's World Weekly News

even if he was provoked that doesnt make his reaction ok. a good leader is someone who is a leader all the time not just when its "important." one of my biggest pet peeves is someone running for a leadership position (even if it is just high school student council) and "misbehaving" until its time to give a speech then acting like an angel. no thats not how it works. you have to be setting an example at all times...
