There's a huge heronry around the corner from my work. This particular heron is very friendly and lets me get quite close. Other shots are from a trip to Costa Rica or my local conservation center (again near my work).
I have to re-scan some of the images and take out that darned watermark I put on everything (from a very early draft of my portfolio). Live and learn.
Is this guy a cormorant? They used to be rare here on the Norfolk Broads but the last couple of years has seen a large increase. Hope to be able to get a few pics of them this year. I love the way they dry themselves like that :)

Yes, it's a cormorant. We have lots of them here in the Northwest. Neat birds.
Cool bird General, I like the abstract look of that!
We bought these "gourds" at a market because they were interesting looking, and the one above looked just like a bird to me so I figured I'd take a shot of it. I even tried to put bird feet on it in PS from a seagull picture I have, and features also, but it didn't come out very well so I trashed that idea. :)

Thanks. I think you "bird" looks perfect as-is, but maybe you could try lightening or blurring the background a bit so it's less hidden in the trees, like I got rid of my lousy-looking wall.
I love so many of these bird shots! I wish I had a camera that could really zoom in on their lips (maybe someday soon!). Here is my favorite bird shot:
I had the chance to take a very few bird pictures since I own my camera. Most of the time, I'm in a hurry, I don't care too much about noise and the birds fly away of I don't take time to get a good angle for lighting or for a nice profile. Also, summer is just beginning here.. there were about no interesting birds around just a few weeks ago.
A few days ago, I was taking a walk with my baby son when I noticed those birds eating at this bird feeder. I got as close as possible not to disturb them and took 4 or 5 shots. Those two are the best I took. The other pictures, the birds were not enough cooperative, they looked away or just did uninteresting things like flying away.
I'm proud enough of that shot when a bird just arrived at the moment I took the shot! A fraction of a second before, the bird wasn't there at all, a fraction of a second later, it would have already landed on the platform!

These are beautiful! To think you took them while caring for your baby at the same time.
I had to post a pic of this Macaw at the zoo from Friday. He/she completely cracked me up - when I walked up to it, I said "Hello!" and the Macaw answered "Hello!" right back to me - amazing how human and clear it sounded! Something unexpected like that can really put a grin on your face.
