Here we go... What I know about birds could fit in a thimble, so please correct me on the ones I got wrong, and if you know the ones I don't, please help. I got bad pictures of a couple of others, but I can do better, so I'm holding off.

This I think is a Willet??? They are supposed to be from Michigan but I live in IA so thought it was weird when I saw this little guy.

Keep your eyes open, check the docks. Surprising how much they are around, but it can take time. Having a bird feeder helps, too :)

I got most of mine by going to a local wetland and following a group of birders around, pointing my camera at whatever they were pointing their binoculars at.

If you get a chance head to the Ballona Freshwater Marsh (on PCH and Jefferson, trail goes around the marsh) and anywhere up and down Ballona Creek. It's not far from you and I was able to get a good many birds between the two last year when we did this.

I am all over even at lunch I can't sit in my office! We have several parks nearby and I just take walks. On the weekends we go out to wetland, preserves, and such. If I have to stay in I start having withdrawals! :)
4. House sparrow - these guys live in urban areas. There's a nest in my neighbor's eave; you can hear the babies calling for food often. Kinda nice to hear them, though. I live between a freeway, a six lane major artery, and a four lane road. VERY urban. And yet we have sparrows! :-)
