I have officially reached a new low in my DPC history. I had a brown ribbon on my to-do list, but i wish it was with another image. This one i really like i hoped it would score higher.
In my past few challenge entries, early scores were consistently lower than later scores. This time, my image subject is very old (no DNMC here), and making the image took diligent effort with light, reflector, positioning, and processing. But initial scores are again not matching my expectations (well, only 7 votes so far so too early to make much of it). Still, even accounting for varying individual taste, and even admitting my image may not be as spectacular as some, I still end up thinking it should be worthy of at least somewhere above an average score.
That "average" idea may be part of the problem. Having a lot of scores near 5 can happen when a batch of voters thinks "5" means middle of range while "6" gets reserved for images deserving of generous praise. But with no "zero" available, the scale is from 1 to 10 with 5.5 being the middle. With no half steps to click on, five and six are both the same distance from the middle.
Here is an unscientific attitude test: what do you think about always voting "6" when you think an image is average. What do you think about always voting "5" when you think an image is average? Do both strategies feel identical to you? After all, "6" is just as close to the middle as "5." So voting "6" for average is just as valid as voting "5." If that seems odd to you, you may want to examine your internal psychology (or the math).
I actually started out really decent prob one of my highest starts since starting DPC...
I love you first voter LOL, usually its the first day voters which are pretty rough with me. Usually, when I post my scores I tend to jinx myself and things get very bad from there... content is where it is now.
However, this morning it dropped again so who knows where it will land.
I am very, very, very shocked to see that there is not one "older vehicle" in this challenge, I did see one.. with as many entries as there is I was expecting to see older motocycles, cars, possibly a train or two, the entries kinda suprised me. Not going to change or make a difference when I go voting.
bob350, I have never - ever understood the power of the vote/people here and I am never going to even try to think about how or what reasons people voting strats are, or the whys and hows...it is one thing that has been beaten with a dead horse.. the techincals in the photos are great processing and better than what I submit, I am always at a loss..all I know wwhen I vote, I have a very consistant standard way.
Still in "meh" territory. I thought this was a darn good one. But I also expected that would mean a mediocre score from the collective. Oh well, it's just a game.
