On another note... mine is almost up to a 5. Hmm... maybe it's better than the first voters thought? I dunno.

I don't know how you stay so positive, I am getting really tired of these crap scores for good shots. The same boring crap finishes at the top and whatever, I need to leave.

Because regardless of what happens with scores, it's still making me stretch in ways that I'd never do without it. My black on black entry may be the boring crap that people were complaining about in another thread, but I used my two flashes in ttl for the first time in a long time, one in a mini softbox, one as a hair light. The shot was a real challenge for me. My bokeh shot is sucking, but I experimented with different techniques. Didn't use any of them, but still experimented. Recently tied a flash into a lamp and stuck it in the river.
Over the past 4 years, I've had incredible adventures with my family, done really silly things, explored abstracts (which I never would have done), expanded my horizons exponentially, learned of some wonderful processing tips, tricks, techniques and programs, taken off my pants to wade through the water for a shot, gotten a lot more comfortable asking total strangers if I can photograph them, laid down in the middle of the street in the rain -- in front of the neighbors -- to take a picture of a vulture eating a squirrel, etc., etc.
All of this has continued to help me grow as a photographer. And I feel like I'm still growing, because I'm still pushing myself.
Why in the world would I let some low votes, or the fact that the photographs aren't resonating with everyone stop me from participating? Yes, I could quit DPC and go back to shooting just what I want to shoot. But I didn't grow very much or very quickly when I was doing that. It's getting out of your comfort zone that helps you expand.
I'm not going to let the trolls stand in my way! :)

I agree completely Wendy. I have learned so much and pushed myself in new ways that I wasn't able to do before I found this site. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I am also forced to go out and shoot because I want to enter something. The good thing is there is always another challenge right around the corner.
5.5 for me! I don't quite know why I keep at it. Unlike some who throw a low score in amongst multiple ribbons and stars (yes, I'm envious!!) I'm on a 50/50 roll, with half of mine finishing 50% or lower. To be fair, I don't try anything new. I have no models to use, and really suck at setups. Which I suppose means I should try those more often, huh?
Based on one comment I received, and what comments another entrant has quoted to me, I have to agree with the other entrant: people don't know what boke is.

And no...Gaussian blur applied during processing is not bokeh.
My own image has lovely bokeh but looking at my steadily declining score it looks like people don't realize that.
Although funny enough...the first 10 voters obviously recognized that it is lovely bokeh :)
Also the particular lens I used is renowned for producing lovely buttery smooth bokeh.

First of all... it's not boke but bokeh. And you thought I didn't know what Bokeh is :)
Anyway, you thought wrong. I know very well what bokeh is and more importantly, I know what good or nice bokeh is and the role good glass plays in this.
There is another possibility you probably haven't considered :)
Oh and I wonder why, when you quoted me, you left out my observation about Gaussian blur that was in my original post.
And another thing...I made 43 comments and all but three of them all say wonderful bokeh or fantastic bokeh or very nice bokeh ect.
So here are the 3 comments where I had some reservations about the bokeh. One of them must be yours.
