I'm not upset that my photo did poorly, but I would have liked constructive critizism. It seems that people just can't accept manure as a good subject. I'm curious if people just don't like turds or if I could have done the photo better. Thanks

From a technical point of view, the shot lacks interest. the camera appears to have been pointed at the ground and the shot taken. Lighting is very flat, there is little feel for the texture of the subject and the composition could have been made more interesting by shooting from neraer the ground,
I think manure is perfectly acceptable as a subject but this photo does not tell us much about the subject. I was on holiday and thus didn't vote or comment on this challenge.

It would have been funnier if you had stepped in it. You could have shot it low down on the ground with your shoe half way flexed. Otherwise what andy said.

If you are lucky and it's a cool morning, the poop will still be warm and you will get some steam rising from it. If the goal is to show strenght of smell, I think you need to get close and use a wider angle. It's a good Idea, but I'm not sure I'm excided enough to wake up in the morning and go on a scavenger hunt for a pile of steaming turds.

I like the sharpness, how the color of the grass varies and ofsets the turds. I thought it was a clever way to show strength. I like the layout, how it uses rule of thirds, and for some reason, the leaves in the upper right corner.

so...go lay in a dewey wet field of cow or horse manure, before breakfast. Preferably get it with the dawn light, so finding it in the dark will surely requre a good sense of smell and leave many bootprints for later photography. LOL
As to finding steaming turds, I make my own every morning. Corn avaialable upon request. However, for that natural, dynamic undisturbed look, I will need to crap in the yard. My first feedback will no doubt come from my neigbors. LOL
This reminds me, I must dig out some of my old slides from around '78/'79. Seem to remember taking photos of horse 'droppings' swarming with bluebottle flies! My girlfriend at the time (wife now!) was not too impressed with my photogenic captures..

Next time try 1 inch macro,that would work better :-)
Perhaps if you had artfully arranged the subject, say into a replica of the Taj Mahal.....never mind.
... or how about rearranging it into the shape of a country's map? Then you could make quite a strong political point. At the moment, you're not that far away from a very smelly place... ;-)
