Have you looked through any of the challenges lately? One thing I've noticed is that the level of quality and creativity has really jumped up in the last several months. Also, it seems there's been a greater appreciation for photos that don't quite fit in to the standard challenge box. That's been a nice change.
And you would have a place to show off your daughter's rock :D :D plus all those new baby pics :)
I am closing to nine years on DPC. Not so many challenges, not so many ribbons, I am not famous or popular. I learnt here a lot and I felt that, if I can afford, I will be a paid member even if only to sustain the site. They do have expenses and there is a financial effort to keep it alive.
I noticed the jump in quality … another reason I am SCARED! ;}]

ETA - killer image. Love the weirdness of it, the angle. The fact that it looks have human, half animal. Or a balloon clown being eaten by one of his own creations :-)
Well I'm one of the anonymous rabble that enjoys this site without contributing that much to it (I'm not famous, or popular, no ribbons). What keeps me here is the occasional enlightenment I find in the Posthumous Awards thread & the new ideas in the side challenges. And the LOVE!
I really have no idea why I chose today. But I am a paid member again. I had some $ in paypal so I renewed this in addition to dishing some dough to a local charity. Paypal $ is like monopoly money right? ;)
Thanks for playing along. I honestly am still not sure if DPC is worth it to me any more … but it HAS enabled me to be much much better at creating images with mass appeal. I have won/earned/donated a few thousand dollars via photography in the past few years and I don't think I could have done that without ever having the competitive drive to get better at making images -thanks to DPC.
I think having to be "sold" into doing anything is the wrong approach. DPC is what it is: a cantankerous community composed of talented, quirky, eccentric people who share a passion for all things photographic. For many of us, it is also a social network, and a priceless trove to turn to for advice, inspiration, competition, camaraderie. That's either your cup of tea or it ain't.

From my perspective, over the past couple of years, dpc has gained some very talented artists, scoring has gotten tougher, quality of the photos has increased, and has had many of its longer term participants get to (and in some cases, surpass) that elusive "next level".
Please. I'm just here because I have a photo crush on Gyaban, a completely inappropriate attraction to CosmicAssassin, a need to kick ToddHead's butt in a challenge, and hoping to see more of that hot guy mbrutus2009 puts in his challenges.
Oh yeah, and I learn alot too..... and the camaraderie... Yeah, yeah, that's it. and the advice and lessons learned and stuff.
(No, not really - it's the guy mbrutus2009 puts in his challenge photos!)
