I knew it would score low! But I feel even better that I called it would score low and the fact that I like it! I feel good, event hough my score is 4 with 8 votes. Hooray!

I'm doing horribly in both Serendipity and Silhouettes... was not expecting to do well in either, though. I'm pretty baffled, trying to figure out what's serendipitous about most of the submissions... I'm beginning to wish I'd just submitted the best shot I took during the time frame, since that seems to be what most people did, instead of trying to make something serendipitous - lol.
My photograph was pretty boring, but I was trying to stay on topic.

lol, well I guess it doesn't matter which way you go then, eh? It seems to just come down to getting lucky and winning the favour of the voters. I've sort of done it a couple of times, but for the most part I feel blessed if I stay above 5, which I won't be doing in either of these, as the early scores tend to reflect where I finish at. I'm perfectly fine with getting crummy scores, as long as I'm true to my own style :)
Not too worried about it though. It's fun to try, anyway ;)
I racked my brain to come up w/ something "Serendipitious" and finally got a decent idea, but I guess you have to be kinda familiar w/ some concepts to "get it." Oh well. On to the next one!

There are very few on topic. But it is an immensely difficult concept to represent with a pic, especially if one doesn’t understand what the word means. Many of the challenge images are truly great shots and quite fortuitous or serendipitous for the author, pictures that would otherwise deserve quite high scores, but the images do not “represent” the idea of, the concept of Serendipity -- discoveries “by accidents and sagacity” -- an image to elucidate or explicate the meaning of Serendipity.

I absolutely agree... it is an extremely difficult concept to represent in a photograph at all, much less in a single shot. However, I think many people mixed up serendipity with irony or simple luck... if they even tried to capture the essence of serendipity at all.

It's all relative though. In all likelihood many people have strong feelings about what is and isn't serendipitous. If everyone's score is low, cause everyone's displeased with something, the blue ribbon could go to a 5 point something...

All I know is that I am happy with my interpretation and reasonably happy with my image so I'll still be proud of it regardless of score or rank.
5.5 here, I guess after the surprise I got in chaos, I must say weird challenges are good to me. :)) I didn't expect it to do much more than a 4 but I whas also verry afraid I may get my first <4. I didn't even wanned to submit anything I whas looping through what I did all week not even searching for serendipity than when I saw it I said "maybe I can stretch this to serendipity with a good title" :)
