I see no compelling reason to make this an "expert" challenge. We have had plenty of those lately. Some of us work full time (or more) and just don't have the time to devote literally days to process an image in order to increase the odds of doing well in an expert challenge. With league play still going on it isn't a simple matter of just skipping a challenge if you don't have time for it. Advanced rules are totally fine for this topic, or doing it in expert next year when league players won't HAVE to do it would be less... cruel ;)

I disagree here. Tim Burton is one of my favorites, advanced just wouldn't do his subject matter justice. This is just begging for expert. You don't have to spend days editing just because it's an expert editing challenge. Take the recent Poe challenge for example, 3rd place certainly didn't take days with 30+ pics like what you see from Judi and gyaban. And it was from an admitted photoshop novice.

6th place with almost a 7 score
I fully agree with you Matt that many hours of editing are not necessarily a "must" for a top placement. But in a League situation, even a 3rd place finish doesn't always carry that much weight to ensure a win for your team. In other words; team members will "have" to spend many hours editing to do the best they can possibly do for their team.
If some feel this topic needs expert rules I would hope it does not come up until league play is over- surely people can be a little bit patient here :) And let's not forget the busy holiday period is coming up as well...

Well, I'm good at expert editing (my best score, a 7.81 in day and night challenge, was under expert editing rules), but never thought of it in terms of WPL. It seems to me that this kind of challenge would be perfect in expert editing, that's all. But to tell the truth I can't understand why it can be a problem having an expert editing challenge under WPL.

Well I guess my issue with having an "expert" challenge come up again during league playoffs is a personal one Alex. I own a small business and I will be working 70+ hours a week through the end of the year. I certainly can't blow off any business when it comes along in this economy. I have been busting my butt for ten weeks now trying to do the best I can for my team with limited free time. I'm tired quite frankly, and would hate to see a playoff become more about time consuming digital art than straight photography.
There are gaps in the remaining WPL league play schedule, tonight's topic would not count for the league and there would be a bye week in between the semi and the final playoff. If people are anxious for this topic maybe it could fall between one of those time periods?
If I have to do an expert challenge during a playoff I will (with a vengeance, lol!) even if I barely get any sleep- but it really would be a shame for that to happen. That's all I am saying :)
