It was under consideration for about 2 days. Then I got a rejection, and no comments. I also submitted it for critique, and this is what I got:

Well I'm probably the wrong person to ask because I haven't been submitting my most successful challenge photos. So far I've only submitted 1 photo that's in my top 32 score-wise. As far as free studies, I've had 2 out of 4 accepted.
according to my stats yanko is right on the money. among my eight submitted 6.5+ "Free Study" and "Hidden Gem" images, all but one made it, and among those below 6.5 which I submitted (also eight, I think) none were accepted. Very strong correlation indeed, which means that voters here and there used mostly similar criteria. However there are definitely some differences in tastes - artificially over-saturated colors, obvious HDR, and sharp animal portraits fly high here and have much less chance at 1x. So this high correlation may not apply to all high-scoring FS images.

Interesting find for me as well. I have had 37 images that I shot for challenges here accepted over at 1x. I have had 11 images that I shot for DPC rejected at 1x. The correlation is quite high. I do submit alot more emotional stuff over there. My lowest scoring accepted image at 1x, was a 6.1 at DPC. My highest scoring rejection on 1x, was a 6.7 here at DPC.
I am currently sitting at 103 images published, and 130 images rejected (ouch) :O/

My recent high scoring FS was rejected immediately (before I even submitted it for the FS here). Also both my ribbons were rejected. (But it's no surprise, everything I have ever submitted has been rejected and I've been a member at 1x since 2007!)

Sorry I don't think this is the answer you are looking for, but for one, the jubilant would be able to say they have a portfolio on a site, and Ursula has one there too:-)
My latest reject is coming out of voting tonight with, possibly, a 7-score, though it just dipped below 7 for the first time all week this morning.

Given that my 2 acceptances have had this sort of surreal smoothness to them, I had hoped this might pass as well. Would have beennice having a ribbon and a 1x on the same image...

Robert, I am surprised this did not get published. As soon as I saw it, I expected it to get accepted at 1x. The illusive screening process.... Gets us to keep trying harder. Wonderful image, regardless.

You ask, "is it rotated every day?" Pictures are published about 1 per hour, 24 hours a day. So max of 24 pictures per day. Over the last month, about 22 pictures were published on a daily basis. The concept is a continuous magazine.
You also ask, what happens when a shot is published. It is on the front page for a minimum of 8 hours, and it goes into your portfolio at 1X. The advantage (from my POV) is the exposure, the number of views, which can't be rivaled anywhere (for me, and I think for many dedicated amateurs). For example, I have 176 published images so far, and an average of 23,437 unique views per image. That is a total of more than 4 million views overall. My most popular image has almost 100,000 views, my least popular a bit over 5,000 views. Unique views as I understand it are unique IP addresses over a period of time (I don't know the period of time). Even if some of the views are repeats, it is still an amazing number of views. The number of contacts I've had from that is quite impressive. Unless you're famous, you can't get that kind of exposure anywhere else that I know. It's probably plain old big ego, but I like that kind of exposure. I want my pictures to be seen, and 1X has proven to be the best vehicle to have them seen on the net. I can have the same pictures on my homepage and get a few views, same other places like Photo.net or others, but not over 20 thousand per picture. Other than that, I don't know - the honour? Same as winning a ribbon here at DPC, it doesn't really mean anything, but, man, it is fun, big time! Maybe it's just a feel-good thing, I don't know.
Yes...the number of views per photo is enough to make it exciting to get a photo in!

Same question here as with the poppy image - why would you expect it to be published? Again, I had nothing to do with this image at 1X (I have been gone a lot lately), but I wonder why you would say that.

Ursula: first of all, I am a big fan.
Next, if you could please take some time to be brutally honest about how banal/common this shot is, I will try and improve what I can.
I've looked through hundreds since discovering the site. The three above are only a few of the ones that I think have the same feel as the one Prash submitted....just my opinion of course.
