I don't understand what i am seeing. Just before voting closed I had a 150 votes with an average of 6.32 but the final result says 6.2535 and only 142 votes. Are some of those 150 votes not counted because they didn't vote the 20%? Can someone explain? I'm sure it must have been asked in a earlier thread.

Yeah...you got it right... some voters didn't finish voting their 20 %
In the user portrait challenge, I lost 9 votes at rollover, and it was enough to drop my entry from a score that would have been 3rd place down to 5th place. So it happens. Bear in mind, of course, that for all we know the eventual 3rd-place finisher lost just as much as I did, of course...
Thanks for the replies and explanations. Sometimes it's a chore but I've voted 100% in all but one of the last handful of challenges since I joined. Don't know how long I'll keep that up but for now it's fun and interesting.
I vote 100 % too. I figure the only way to expand my imagination is to see what others are creating... and the only way to grow is to take the time to vote... so I vote... besides I want others to vote on mine... I also try to comment at 20%
i think our partial voters were pretty generous, I lost a good bit on rollover as well. Why do the folks who give out ones and twos always manage to get past 20 percent?

It would be interesting to do a psychological profile of people who get pleasure
or satisfaction from voting 1's. Would there be a correlation to the most disenfranchised among us who feel powerless or deprived or envious and need an anonymous hammer for self expression? I realize this is taking it to the absurd but it is interesting to look at voting patterns on top ten photos and to not imagine the
lone "1" voter as not simply rejecting mainstream aesthetics, but rather having a temper tantrum or simply
acting out. I wonder what happens to the habitual or compulsive 'ones'? Serial killers, politicians,
anger management leaders? I think an lol (whatever that means) is called for at this point. Just wondering.

I don't get pleasure from voting a 1. I have done it, though rarely. Personally, I feel that if one is willing to vote a 10, then they should be willing to vote a 1. I believe both should be applied sparingly, and only for those that truely deserve it.
If you never vote lower than say a 3, then you may make yourself feel better, you may make the photographer feel better, but really your 3 is in essence a 1.

You are assuming the people that placed above you suffered the same fate. Rather presumptuous, no? I've been there, done that, too. You don't know what was voted above you and how your entry meshes with how other folks droppped. Any consideration is... well, an assumption.
Not calling out Robert... just pointing this out. Voting seems so simple out of context.
Also, I have voted 1's. I have voted very few, but I have voted very few 10's too. ambaker has it right- accept the trough with the peak. Votes will be good, votes will be bad. Accept that they are votes, not a representation of you as a person. Don't take things so personally.

His only assumption is that we're all subject to the same complex process and that you can't take the affect on your score out of context.
