Not so much a web site suggestion, but an observation that might be addressed at some future point in time. I switched to Mac for personal stuff about a year ago, and Safari is my regular browser. I don't want to switch to Firefox. Since coming back to the site, I've noticed that, unlike in all other browsers, including Firefox and Explorer, Safari displays the site in excess of 100% of the window frame, so that the site scrolls horizontally, with a horizontal scroll bar. The site size is about 25 pixels or so larger than the window frame size.
In addition to being a cosmetic anomaly, this becomes an issue when I use my fancy new Magic Mouse. When scrolling, the mouse acts kind of like a trackpad, and can scroll in all directions, so that it's easy to move the site contents around in the window frame in an annoying manner, i.e., about 25 pixels on the left are regularly cut off from view, and one has to scroll around to position properly in the site.
I was also surprised to learn the site still uses tables for layout. Holy cow! I viewed the source to see if anything was obvious, and it could be all the 100% table widths being used together with some peculiarity of Safari. If there's a site design in DPC's future, I humbly recommend to the developers and designers to seriously consider using only
for layout, as is the standard now.
Anyway, as stated, not a suggestion so much as an observation, and I was wondering if anyone else notices/cares about this.
Hmm....interesting...I just purchased a new iMac for my wife and it has the magic mouse. She has some vision problems so had to lower the res to get the screen to a comfortable viewing solution as well as adjust the mouse for proper scrolling. Before or after - as in out of the box or after customization - we did not have this problem/situation. DPC using Safari on her system looks just like it does on mine using Firefox as far as format.
Adjust the window size? I just tried it on her system and then again on mine (both Macs but at different screen resolutions and sizes) and both work/displayed fine with no scroll bars.
Damn. What's going on, I wonder. My Safari isn't special. I think. :) Maybe I'm special.
Here's a screenshot of this page showing that interminable scrollbar, which I see everywhere on DPC. Resizing doesn't change it. The site is always larger than the window frame.

Boom! I can confirm the symptom (on all computers I listed in my original post here). Why it appears now and not before is a mystery to me. Stop hacking my network, Louis! :)
Yes, it's weird. Happens for me on Safari too on OSX.
Fine in Firefox, fine in Chrome.
ETA: Actually, the horizontal scrollbar only appears on pages where the vertical scrollbar appears. It's as if it's adjusting for the 25 pixels which the vertical scrollbar takes up.

Absolutely right! Thanks for noticing this. Doesn't happen on pages that don't extend beyond the lower portion of the window frame (ie not on pages that don't also scroll vertically). Still a Safari on OSX thing only.
pull the corner so that the window fills the screen and if that doesn't work take the batteries out for a min or so and then turn the mouse off and back on, if wired unplug, shut down and restart
And of course right after I posted my last post, I have that scroll bar. I am really not sure what to say now. It wasn't there right before I posted... I even have the screen shot to prove it.
Try pressing CMD+0 (zero) this will zoom the window to 100%. If that doesn't work, I am not sure what to say.
EDIT: I'm on a macbook, and I can see the whole screen on my [relatively] tiny (13in) screen.
The horizontal scrollbar appears when there is also a vertical scrollbar. Your cap is of a page that isn't scrolled vertically, so that doesn't show it. Try it with a long page, like this one.
Incidentally, zooming either out or in has no effect. Even zoomed out completely so that the view is the smallest it can be, the site extends beyond the window frame, and the horizontal scroll bar shows up. But, as stated a few times, ONLY on pages that also scroll vertically, i.e., long pages.
This thread is a virus created by Windows 7 to get even with Apple for those Mac vs PC commercials.
