Haha. I know what you are talking about... My entries seem to be failing of late. Given the responses here, I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing :)
I think it's more about style. A lot of people there do similar work to mine...or something near to it so, they might have a greater appreciation or feel for my work. People here, generally don't tap in they way they do over there.
My Nude Ribbon doesn't stand a chance over there. Not worth wasting a slot or even the little effort it would take to post it for screening. It would be a joke. Comparatively speaking the nude work over there is way beyond me...or at least what I have done so far.

I have a pretty decent sense of what will fly over there with a few surprise rejects but more important is to know what will tank. Like here at DPC after a while, you get a good sense of what will break a 6, let's say but on the flip side, you kinda know what will unquestionably get killed by the voters. Then again, there are always surprises...
Not to sound so sure but it's pretty clear what they like and that's not to say I have what they like BUT I kind of have a feel when I'm close, even if they do get rejected. Keep in mind it could all depend on the flow of folks screening during the period you put something up. It's possible two days later the exact same image might get in...who knows?
This guy lives in my neighborhood but I never noticed him before I saw him outside a local Laundromat while on a portrait tear. Now, every time he spots me he tries to put the touch on me for a "dollah". What a nightmare...
should've used the zoom. Give him a print of the photo and call it square.

I think their average members have been around the block a few times more than the average DPCer and have seen a lot of the standard stuff so many times, they're much harder to impress. People there have been shooting for years and years...way back to the ancient days of film. lolol
Your Bamboo Graffitti shot has a good chance at publishing. It's unique and that counts for a lot.
I think common shots...like shoreline seascapes or landscapes need more than bizarrely over saturated colors to get by.
Creative toning or something unique has to be going on to get their attention.
I think this point has been already made earleir in this thread, bit still.. aside from the technical level (which on average is undoubtedly much higher over there) the big difference is that voters on this site highly appreciate good quality commercial stuff (what you use in advertizements), and 1x audience shuns it completely. So their gallery mostly features photos you might see in art galleries, not in mail-order catalogs. This is not to say that there are no great artistic photos on DPC, of course :)

this is true - I get frustrated there too seeing the same (nice) idea recycled over and over and over again by some of their star contributors.

Good comments buddy, i tried the Bamboo shot as I to thought it was kinda unique and "sublime", however, no go;

I mean, any old weathered, Eastern Bloc Babushka or gnarly dude ...or a complete nothing portrait with basic 3rd world appeal, will get published there, which is pretty sad.
Not true - I've submitted several "3rd world" portraits with zero published to date. They still need to be good.
