I've been a lurker on the site for months, just started submitting/posting/voting. I found my average voting score for this challenge very low, and I know why, because i voted a little harshly on entries that i felt didn't even come close to meeting the challenge. Is that wrong? Should I be voting equally on the quality/concept of the photo as well as it's meeting the criteria? Thoughts please.

there are about 3 million threads regarding voting, but what it really comes down to is (barring violations of the rules) they are your votes to do with what you please. some voters penalize more than other if a photo doesn't meet a challenge. some voters never use anything lower than a 4 when voting. some don't give more than a 9. personally i rarely vote less than 4 and tend to be pretty lenient with the challenge description. that works for me but i'm sure some would have major issues with it.
if a lot of the photos don't seem to be "hidden treasures" to you (and what is that, exactly, anyway?), then of course you can vote them down.
it took voting in a few challenges for me to find a system that i think is fair and works for me, maybe it's the same for you. so you have a low average this challenge, no biggie. maybe you'll have a low voting average forever, that's fine too. most importantly, thanks for voting :)

This is my second challenge to enter. It's going MUCH better than my first. I, for one, and hoping that people vote on the "topic" as well as the image quality. :)
I have a pretty low score which seems to be dropping by the hour - 4.3922! Perhaps, this being my first challenge I was a little optimistic hoping for some constructive feedback as to why, but have only had one comment so far which seems somewhat cryptic.. unless someone can translate for me:

Ok people. I removed my in your face, Free Study-ish, no mystery treasure photo that I REALLY loved for one that has a treasure but maybe, just maybe, you have to actually LOOK for the hidden treasure - not hard - but look a little. If the "treasure" was obvious, then it wouldn't be "hidden" anymore - right?
Sigh...I knew I should have stayed out of this one. :-/

I commented on a fair number that I thought had a weak connection to the challenge, and that kept a few very nice photos from scoring higher than a 6. And, yes I did look pretty carefully for the treasure in those ... though I didn't vote this as if it were a Where's Waldo challenge, cuz in my mind it ain't.

Your comment "Not much tie to the challenge...." is a bit harsh considering you are only looking at the picture from your own perspective and not from the photographers. I marked your comment as helpful, for the additional comments, but disagree with your initial judgment as from my perspective the scene is a true Hidden Treasure.

Perhaps, but the votes are designed to reflect the perception of the viewer (me), not the photographer (you). :-) No worries, though, I respect your opinion, even if it differs from my own.
Don't worry, I got the same comment but i'm at 5.9 so somebody thinks it fits :)

I, too, thought this would be a good challenge to really send some good constructive feedback. I wish I were getting a bit more myself. So far, I'm over 50% on the commenting and I'm planning on trying to catch all of them. I've got 80 votes, 120 views, and only 6 comments. I'm waiting til that 11:10 update to post my newest scores. I'm slowly sinking. I climbed to over a 6.8, but am dropping again. Oh well. I'm way too invested in this challenge.
