I got two finalist images last year...and Canon never bothered paying the $100-00 per image they stated they would pay to all finalist images in the rules and conditions. Grrrrr! They ignored all emails!!!

Yup...I don't give a crap what Canon think as they never bothered paying me for my two finalist images last year and now they are excluding professionals and yet the prizes are a photo tour and a 5DII with lens for prizes...so of course I will tell you. It is based on skill....Low light, Portraiture (glasses included), Macro (100's & 1000's included), Fast Shutter Speed (liquid splat included), Bokeh (lens covers included).
They don't bother telling you on any of the main pages and they even sent me an early registration based on last years details...and I was professional then...so they are not very forthcoming about this clause...but here is the excerpt from the FAQ page.
"I am a professional photographer - can I enter?
No, the Canon EOS Photo5 competition is designed for amateur photographers and so anyone having earned more than AU$35,000 (Australian Residents) or NZ$35,000 (New Zealand Residents) from photography work in the last 12 months cannot enter this competition. If you enter, you will be breaching the Terms and Conditions and will not be eligible to receive any prizes."
