I managed a few from my Dad's back yard.
I haven't had a chance to edit the sequence yet that I shot, with the separation of the solid rocket boosters.
I like how governement officials are always ready to go out on a limb:
"Officials think the bat died as the shuttle headed into orbit."
I know right like the bat couldn't have fallen off before it got up that high. Or like it couldn't have been cooked during blast off and was just stuck to the side due to lack of vegetable oil before heat up.

Hey Waddy. I'm planning to shoot from home (if the weather is iffy); or drive to St. Augustine if it looks like a really good chance for launch. Right now weather is good and forecast is good so I think its a safe bet we'll launch tonight.

1:36am EST. Its a late (early) one.
WOW that is late, er early. I hope I have a clear sky tonight or else I won't see it from where I live. But I'll set my alarm now so I can look for it.
Launch is still set for 1:36 AM and everything is go. Is anyone going out to look and shoot? I am going to drive a couple of miles out of town to a dark area and watch it from here.
I am about to leave to watch it. SDW, It will be coming toward the north. I live about 100 miles south, and can see it very well from here. All the rain is offshore, so you should have a clear view if it isn't foggy.

Thanks. I live on one of the highest point in Columbus, GA with no obstructions to the south and east. I was curious if it could be see from this far away, 372 miles NNW.
If the sky is clear there, you should be able to see it well when it clears the clouds near the Cape. Here is a shot from March, from 100 miles away with a 300mm.
Take binoculars if you want to see it a little better.
Next attempt for launch is set for 01:10:22 A.M. EDT Tomorrow
I'm so bummed (again). dammit. Was out in the lovely night air and in the last hour or so clouds rolled in again. I even had a few buds willing to help keep me awake (insert adult beverages here) until the launch. Bah.. guess we'll try again tomorrow. I love night launches so really wanna catch this one.
