I'm pretty easy, Covent Garden is good for me coming into Waterloo ... I would quite like to go to to Trafalgar square as I've not been in years!
We just need to be aware that there are strict rules about commercial photography in Trafalgar Square that require a permit at £500/hour !!! but I'm sure we are ok as tourists eh
I will hopefully be staying right across from Waterloo station. Still need to make reservations - the online form is not working for me. Grrr...
By the way, is the famous Richmond Park do-able via public transportation?
I think you are looking at about 3/4 hour ride from say Covent Garden or Waterloo to Richmond bt tube
In fact if you are visiting Kew on monday it would make sense to go then as it's in the same area
I'll definitely be meeting up with Deb so let me know the plans for a GTG and I'll do my best to make it...if you guys can cope with walking very slow for the day ;)

Richmond Pk is very weather dependent - at the moment the deer are giving birth to young, so most of the females will be hiding in the bracken. Best time is to get there at sun up, and unless you are having pretty adverse weather conditions (mist, dew, frost, snow or just autumn in general) Richmond is pretty much like any other deer sanctuary/park during normal daylight hours.
Now early mornings in autumn are a different beast entirely.... droooooool.
I figure there won't be any good shooting while I'm there, but I have never been to ANY deer park/sanctuary, so it might be nice to see one! And from what I understand, I can also watch cyclists go 'round in circles, yes? Very good info, Simms - thanks!

Since you took me on a pretty comprehensive tour last time I was there, I'm open to suggestions for this trip. We probably need to have a "it's gonna rain" backup plan for possible indoor activities, too, though as I recall, we gamely wandered about in the rain last time, too.

Cameras in London are fine, there are thousands of dSLR's floating around, getting stopped is pretty rare I think.

I'm afraid I'd have to say getting stopped isn't rare in London these days. I don't go up there very often with the camera anymore because I got sick of being asked by security guards etc what I was doing. If I do decide to go anywhere that might have security I email them before hand now to make sure I wont get hassled...even then that doesnt always stop them.

I guess it depends where you go ... maybe I stay to the more touristy bits ... or maybe I've just been lucky, I've never been stopped and I'm often around the city or parliment.

Around the London Eye is bad for security guards who think they run the country and Canary Wharf is probably the worst, even though they state photography is allowed around the buildings as are tripods, we still got followed and then stopped by undercover security there! Not sure how they think a disabled person walking at a snails pace with a camera is a threat to national security but hey...

Anyway, Saturday morning, 0930, Covent Garden. But I need more than just Covent Garden or we'll all just be aimlessly wandering about looking for aimless wanderers with cameras... So is it a tube stop? A specific place with an address? What would be good?

It was quite funny at docklands though cos I spotted the plain clothed security guard, he was dressed as a jogger and kept on stopping to do his laces up (cos we were slow) then we made it up some steps and sat down as he ran up the steps, saw us staring at him then wandered off to call security. The security guards were ok and were quite suprised when we pointed out their boss lurking by some bushes.
