Nope, not the highest--the deer is at 6.8 something (and a really cool shot!) But it is still so exciting!
It wouldn't have been the same without you guys. I told one of my best friends last night, but since she's not particularly interested in photography, it just wasn't the same as being able to tell everyone here!
Very exciting! When I got a Kodak Picture of the Day I wanted to tell everybody I could think of- even people I did not know. This is a bigger deal than that. Now I have something else to go and try for! Good luck with the voting. You did a great job on the photo!
I understand the original post to say that there are 12 per day up for voting, and for that 24 hours only, then a new group of 12 is open for voting. The new dozen is up now.
oops, been off for awhile and missed the recent stuff.
For each month, the editors of National Geographic Magazine pick 12 photos each weekday. Two of those photos will end up in the magazine--the top rated one and one picked by the editors.
All photos for the month, including mine, are still there. They're listed under voting machine (hopefully this link will work, I'm not sure, since I've already rated the photos). The rating ends June 1st.
It's been fun to watch: there have been 60 photos so far this month, and mine is currently ranked 4th out of 60. Of course there are still 180 more photos that will be selected (15 weekdays * 12), so I'm not getting my hopes set too high--but it is incredibly awesome to say that my photo was selected by National Geographic for possible publication. And it's a blast to watch the ratings. There are two other photos that are close to mine in the ratings, and we keep switching places. It's like a month long DPC challenge that lets in new entries each weekday!
It's also fun that the archives of the daily dozens go back for about 9 months. So even after the ratings are over on June 1st, I'll still have a photo on National Geographic.com for about 9 months. It's probably the coolest photography thing that will happen to me (unless, of course, they're so impressed that they hire me to go shoot an african safari...)
