Day two. Full speed looking for a work. I do have a couple of leads allready. I wish I can find some photography related fulltime job but it's virtually not possible at this time. It doesn't matter though, whatever comes to my way I will have to take it.
Again, I love it here in Arizona though; we are here to stay :)
When I started working here in AZ, the owner realized that I was also taking photos and he was kind of worry that I would quit my job one day and go to photography business. I totally stop so he wouldn't think that way. I totally gave myself coding and company projects to assure him that he is not investing his money to a person that will leave him soon.

I am asking my lights and backdrops from NJ, from the studio I had there. As soon as they are here, I am advertising "Studio FocusPoint" again and start photography on the side... and if anyone says something about what I do at my new job, I will have to look for another company.
Only whatever you do by yourself and for yourself is steady, nothing else :|

Absolutely... Company's expect loyalty but it's ALL one way. It's just a way of funding what you need/want in real life - you have to work for yourself even as an employee. I have had jobs that I would have done for free and others that I despise.... but I never mixed up myself and the job unlike a lot of people I run across.

Sorry to hear that Leo. My mom has been out of work for about 6 months...she is 58 and there is nothing on the horizon. She just lost her home that she bought (single mom) when I was 6....she had to move from Wisconsin to Florida to live with me. It is hard all the way 'round.
Today I was let go due to downsizing. Well, moving from NJ to AZ is a big step (and I asked them many times before I moved here) so, we will try to survive here. I am not sure if I do photography again, which I am dying to do... but who knows. Today is, Day One...

Aw, that sucks!! So many of the good peeps at DPC in that boat of late. I was unemployed for 11 months before going back to a company I was originally less than thrilled with, but it helped pay the bills. One thing I did learn, you can do odd or quirky part time work while looking for full time and that can actually be fun.
I'm sending will wishes and prayers your way (and to the rest of our little family here that need jobs!)
Do Pet portraits while you look for work. Pet parents LOVE having their little fur babies' photos taken. (Check w/local pet store and see if they can arrange.) Just a thought, but you are way to talented at photography not to try pursuing this line of work.
Who knows, this may be a blessing in disguise. I'm of the school of thought that everything happens for a reason (even when it's hard to imagine). Hugs ~ Kat

at some point, we all get some basic exposure to first aid--dial 911, the heimlich maneuver, cpr--but it seems the only training we get for things like our current economic situation is at the school of hard knocks. we don't see it coming, we don't know what hit us, we don't know what to do about it. and our jobs monopolize so much of our time that we don't really have the opportunity to build any safety nets...
i don't have any be-all-end-all answers; what has worked for me might not work for everyone. however, except for a 9-month 'experiment' back in '92, i have been self-employed since 1987. all along, i've held to one philosophy: if i want something to happen, i've got to make it happen. i can't just wait for something. i've got to create my own opportunities. it's not easy or automatic, but i do feel better when i'm focusing on creating something rather than when i'm not. your mileage may vary...
