My question is...(and I'm too lazy to look it up) what does swine flu have to do with swine?
This is a species of Type A Influenza which heretofor had only infected swine (pigs), but has now mutated (evolved) so that it can not only infect and cause symptoms in humans, but humans can pass the infection to one another.
At least they were quarantined quickly and have been given the right drugs. What's more frightening is that no-one can trace the 18 passengers from the same flight whose contact details were unclear.
They could be anywhere, unknowingly infecting countless others :(
That one is in the county to the East of me. They are checking on one in the county to the west of me. I suspect it won't be long before it's in our county too. We have a lot of farming and Mexican immigrants here so I'm sure I'll be seeing the panic here soon. It will be interesting to see if there is any tie-in with people travelling back and forth between Mexico and the spread in the states.
Our HR girl just got back yesterday from a week vacation in Mexico. I haven't talked to her much. I'm sure your chance of getting it is like a toss of dice. Hopefully it will be contained and isolated.
Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman said the reference to pigs is offensive to both religions and "we should call this Mexican flu and not swine flu," he told a news conference at a hospital in central Israel.
Both Judaism and Islam consider pigs unclean and forbid the eating of pork products.
I am seriously contimplating this right now. Not trying to be funny or anything but:
If you wore a face mask thingy, drank only bottle water (which you have to do anyways), sanitize your hands every 5 seconds, if you would be somewhat safe to be down there.
Cos right now, I am wondering on what amazing travel deals they are going to be running, as people are running scared.

Pandemic 2, in case anyone would like to make their own swine flu and see if they can wipe out all of earth's population. it's nearly impossible to infect madagascar, so it might be a good idea to move there now before they shut down their ports ;)
